card companies monitoring message boards/forums

Hello all,
Besides this/forum/message board, I also post on the Non Sport Udpate board, Non Sport Update is a price quide, kinda like beckett. I put up a poll on that board asking which company had the worst collation. My poll has been terminated because the host Non Sport Update had two card companies contact them and complain about my poll. I just wondered what everyone thought about being able to complain freely about companies in a forum. That's why I love this forum, you can say whatever about any company, then everyone chimes in. Even a lot of complaints about PSA occur on here and they haven't deleted them.
Anyways here's the post. You have to sign up to Non Sport Update forum's in order to view a link. So I will try to clean this paste job up for you.
The moderators made these comments about my poll.
COMMENT 1
On a website hosted by a magazine that relies on card manufacturers to advertise in order for the magazine to stay alive, isn't it a bit inappropriate to badmouth a manufacturer using a poll like this? Kind of puts NSU into a "bite the hand that feeds you" sort of situation doesn't it?
COMMENT 2
sometimes a company will actually make it on purpose, see the UD Disney sets. I bought a box of the first set and had only 2 doubles and was not able to complete a set because there were not enough cards in a box to complete one. That is not a collation issue, that is a strategic move, they attempted to give the base set a higher value, and guess what? They succeeded.
COMMENT 3
Hi All:
Todd pretty much hit the nail on the head for me. You see, if everyone gangs up on company xyz, well then, you've put us in a no win situation since as he's said, the manufacturers are our break and butter (and yours too, if you are a fan of the magazine and this site).
While it is fair for people to discuss collation issues, good or bad, as it relates to specific products, I don't think this thread is set up in a constructive manner. It asks people to make generalizations about an issue/problem that is usually related to specific products.

Again, it boils down to generalizations. It's one thing to say ABC product had horrid collation. It's another to say company xyz sucks at collation. And that's how this is set up.

These days collation does not seem to be much of a problem. All the companys know that people expect a base set from their box and if they don't get one will keep away from the product.
So i would say none of them.

I didn't vote, but Topps used to be painful! I have about 2000 Dick Tracey cards with duplicates of up to 16 of some cards and only made 3 full sets with stickers. Jurrasic Park was another one! I had 6 sets all missing the same card and it was before the internet era and I thought it wasn't made. I've since traded here for the cards I needed.

I would say that collation for Inkworks and Rittenhouse is pretty solid. But Upper Deck has been pretty bad lately, especially the Disney Treasures. Benchwarmers are getting worse. I agree that a box should yield a base set each time, but sometimes it's the 2nd set out of a box that can only be missing a card or two, and that can make things frustating.

I didn't vote because RA and Inkworks have excellent collation in every box of theirs I've opened. I have never opened a Bench warmer box and have very ltd experience with Topps and Upperdeck.
The worst collaction i've experienced was with Skybox. rarely have I got a Complete base set in a Skybox box. I seem too remember 101 dalmations was particually bad.

No need to worry about Skybox collation anymore. They are owned by Fleer. But I voted for Upperdeck since I have had so much trouble completing sets (Disney for instance).

Others , like myself , who only buy an occassional box are even more frustrated because we're not willing to put out the cash more cards . Also , the manufacturers should view the box breakdown forum , it lets us little guys know what to expect . Product improvement = more sales .

I feel sure that the companies will not mind as long as the comments are correct. Some of the companies mentioned activly welcome any feedback as it lets them improve what they are doing. Market research is very exspensive, on here manufacturers get it for free.

Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

Today's message board users are much much smarter and keyed into the hobby than the guys running UD and Topps, when
beckett needs info on a brand new product they go to the message boards first, these are the guys breaking the product and
who have experience in cards. If you have ever called a CS rep at topps or UD they know nothing. I have emailed higher ups
at UD and Topps and they don't know squat. Well actually they know how to make a buck or two!
The card companies screw up ALL THE TIME NOW, they just make too much product trying to keep up with each other. They want
no one to critisize them because they know people will just blindly buy anything they put out, and if someone gets negative
press they may lose money even though we know they real sufferers when bad products hit are the dealers.

I think it is happening.
Seems like Topps is getting some ideas on their Topps Fan Favorites & Archives from what they people are saying here. They seem to have a good pulse on producing modern cards that look & feel vintage.

I would rephrase that as to say "it appears/seems/looks like ABC product had horrid collation"
That way it isn't "bashing" any particular company because it is simply a Point of view!
