1978-heads: did you see this?

137 DIFFERENT 1978 TOPPS PSA 10 BASEBALL CARD LOT: eBay auction

Nice way to start or improve your set, but $70/card is a little steep, no? SMR is only $50 for commons.

    Guy wants a bit over market.

    Throw in the shipping at least on BIN.

    The main draw would be break up on a set this recent. He doesn't want to share todays or tommorrows profit.

    With an average of 2 bidders pursuing PSA 10 commons I would pass.

    $7000 is about right.

    Loves me some shiny!

    He gets $7000 and I start submitting 78's.

    ......even the $100 for S/H/I is a tab much.

    USPS shipping with $10,000 insurance would run $50-$60

    Waaaaaaaaaaay overpriced! His asking price is about $72 per card. I know there are 20 pop 1s, but still many of these would sell for half that amount listed individually. But certainly is a nice auction.

    He has to be testing the top two registry entrants. If either pulls the trigger on the group they will likely lock up the '78 top spot for a while. The seller himself has a fantastic '78 set listed which these are a part of.

    He bought about a dozen or so of those from me, some as recently as a few weeks ago. I think he's testing the market, but I don't think he's asking much more than he paid for them based on the $100+ avg. he bought from me. Although there were some minor stars, most of them were commons.

    The cards come from the # 4 set in the registry. I enquired and spikemax says he is selling the set off. Although not at the price he is asking for the 10's, he will have to back off on that. BUT you never do know ...

    @ SMR Pricing:

    $ 375.00 #020 Pete Rose (1)
    $ 375.00 #020 Pete Rose (2)
    $ 160.00 #170 Lou Brock
    $ 225.00 #540 Steve Carlton
    $ 2,000.00 20 PSA 10s 1/1s (let's double SMR, for the fun of it! @ $ 100 each)
    $ 3,000.00 40 PSA 10s 1/2s (let's make these 1.5 times SMR, or $ 75 each)
    $ 3,650.00 73 PSA 10s (SMR = $ 50.00 each)

    $ 9,785.00 Retail!

    Now a lot of this size, let's say:

    $ 5,871.00 - 60% of Retail sounds like a deal!
    $ 3,914.00 - 40% of Retail sounds much better!

    Thats a very impressive collection! I am assuming this kind of thing doesnt come up every once in awhile. Maybe you guys who collect this set should think about inflation, as by the time you get this many PSA 10's it might be a few years down the line.
