Have you ever had a coin bodybagged for some reason

then submit it again and it gets slabbed? Is this caused by a different grader the second time around?

Comments

  • Yep, had a coin BB'ed by PCGS for "altered surfaces" and sent it to NGC and it came back MS65 FBL. It was a Franklin that had some heavy die polish lines on the obverse. The PCGS grader must have thought that they were hairlines and didn't take a closer look with a loupe.

I have had two for questionable color. I resubmitted and they got slabbed.

  • Sure; I've had several I've had BB'ed (mostly for cleaning) the first time to PCGS, resubmitted them again (to PCGS) and gotten them slabbed. I've also had a couple slabbed the first time around that I thought deserved a higher grade, resubmitted (with absolutely no "conservation") and gotten the BB for cleaning.

I've had Trade Dollars get BB'd for 'filed rims' and then graded on the next submission.

I have never resubmitted a BB coin. Of the BB's I've recevied:

Damage, Scratched, and Not Genuine aren't going to change.

However, Questionable Color, Environmental Damage, and Cleaned would stand a chance to get through on a second submission, but I usually don't feel like betting $18 on it again.

I've had two bodybagged for environmental damage that were graded the second time through. Both were pulled directly from proof sets and submitted and, in both cases, no corrective measures were taken (didn't need any, there was nothing wrong with them) before resubmission.

I had a trade dollar bagged by NTC (when they where trying to be legit) for questionable toning/cleaned. Sent it to ANACS and came back AU-55. NTC lol need I say more.
If I say something in the woods, and my wife isn't around. Am I still wrong?

Environmental Damage is a substitute for Questionable Color IMO. I get it on toned coins pulled from Mint cello proof sets.

97|N-7 Environmental Damage - Corrosion, coating (lacquer)
98|N-8 Damage - Tooled (sharp instrument)

OOPS. I should read more carefully.

One of the two I mentioned was exactly that. A golden toned 1964 proof Kennedy. Graded the second time through. The other, though, was a cameo 1962 proof Frankie with no toning at all. I still have no idea what the graders thought they saw the first time, but it graded 66CAM the second time.

Many many time, most of the reasons are "altered surface" and "questionable toning."
