what? YES!!! Economy grades in 8 days (VAMs and surprises)

DennisHDennisH Posts: 14,010 ✭✭✭✭✭
Sent these in raw and I can't even begin to understand why they got done so fast image ... and the results more than make up for the crack-out NGC MS64 1889-P Morgan that got bodybagged for "altered surfaces" two invoices ago:

LINE # CERT # COIN DATE DENOMINATION VARIETY COUNTRY GRADE

1 60196133 1895-S S$1 USA F15 image
VAM 1A die break reverse rim. Rated R-6 by Van Allen, this is only the fifth example I have ever seen since a buddy found the discovery coin in my collection almost two years ago. Sold raw and priced on eBay as a VF, I figured it as a Fine-12/15, but had to have it anyway.

2 60196134 1901 S$1 USA XF45 image
VAM 9 DDR, bought raw on eBay as XF

3 60196135 1890-O S$1 USA MS62 image
VAM 10A Comet, bought in Heritage auction as ANACS-62

4 60196136 1880-O S$1 USA MS63 imageimage
VAM 48 Hangnail, bought in Heritage auction as ANACS-62

5 60196137 1884 S$1 USA MS63 image
VAM 2A E-reverse, bought in Heritage auction as ANACS-63

6 60196138 1883-O S$1 USA MS65 imageimage
VAM 36A E-reverse, bought from dealer as PCI-64

Nice grades and super fast!!! This order

Your shipment was entered on 06/20/2005. Further processing is pending.

Is a Super Express received the same day as your economy and it's still in grading!! Go figure!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

    Nice grades!!

You should try to resubmit your 1899 that was bodybagged and see if it comes back good.image

My Regular Service submission took about 35 calendar days last month, which included 5 or 6 black out days. image

    Nice grades though! image

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

Coin #1 on my submission is a VAM that virtually no one has ever seen, so I thought I'd post a scan of the diagnostic crack (sorry for the poor quality).

Good grades and great service. That clashed E is a really nice one in 65.

    Were these ANACS crack outs?
  • DennisHDennisH Posts: 14,010 ✭✭✭✭✭
    Jack:

Three were ANACS crackouts, one was a PCI, and the other two were coins I bought raw.

Still no VAM notations on the holders, but the Customer Service person I spoke to this morning agreed that they are getting verrrrrry close! image

I'm currently waiting for a new scanner to arrive so I can't post photos of the latest batch of VAMs, but here's a shot of my other 1895-S VAM 1A with the die crack reverse -- which PCGS was kind enough to attribute as the discovery coin.

Now now boys, let's keep our smiley faces on! image

All I had to do to find the second one was look at about 1,000 1895-S in auction after auction and in dealers' cases. Along the way I found two cleaned ones, one of which I bought just because I thought I might never find another good one. Leroy's R-6 rating seems very conservative to me.

  • Nice going! I've got to try that slab thing before the summer is over. Congrats!
  • And all the this time I thought you were interested in buying my 1895-S!!! The picture of the obverse wasn't good enough, you had to see the reverse too. I'll bet if I had sent you the reverse first you could have cared less about the obverse. Ha! You were just cherry picking weren't you Dennis? Good find - Congratulations!!
