FYI - Add 5-7 Extra Days shipping to North Eastern States via USPS

Over the past 3 weeks I have sold 10 coins to buyers and sent in 5 payments to dealers that live in New York, Washington DC and Boston. Every single transaction has taken 10-12 Business days shipping USPS Insured Mail. I actually thought USPS had lost 3 coins. When I called the New York post office today, they said that anything shipping from the West Coast or Central States (MN is My State) to the North Eastern states, add 5-7 extra days. According to them, the New York and Washington DC main post offices are undergoing massive reorganizations and maintenance. This delay is expected for at least another month. Just an FYI for all of you.

Don't get pissed is something does not make it there in the normal 3-4 days. Got to love the USPS.

That's correct. D.C. was attacked by Anthrax in the mail in addition to the better known 9/11 airplane. One PO is still not open plus there is extra security. On the other hand DC has the world's fastest shipping OUT OF TOWN (they don't let packages linger here for good reason).

Agreed, I have received my packages in 2-3 days from DC. But shipping into there or surrounding areas is horrible right now. Just and FYI for everyone.

  • I think NYC is the only bottleneck in the Northeast.

First Class zooms in and out of Connecticut (sometimes 2 days to the West Coast!), and stuff I send to or receve from NJ, PA, or the rest of New England is usually delivered in one day.

Registered from Boston to Portland, Oregon usually takes 2 weeks. The reverse direction normally only takes 1 week. Been this way for years. Have not shipped to/from there recently so I do not know if things changed because of the Post Office maintenance.

To be fair, that's not 10,000 miles... it's a bit under 3000 from CA to NJ, and a little over 3000 from NJ to Holland image

I live near DC and have not noticed any difference. My packages still arrive in two to three days. One letter
traveling 200 miles made it in 24 hours.

My Numismatic News however sometimes takes two weeks to arrive.image
