If I could triple my earnings and get time off to attend coin auctions as a collector? Where's my desk? image

If you can read mammograms and spine/bone MRIs, you are hired!

Are the mammograms done as a "hands on" test?

Kinda like going from the grapefruit to the sock with a roll of quarters in the toe of it.

    I'll stick to grapefruit.

Mammography is far from glamorous. It is a lot more like...

than your sig line. Plus, the guy on the treadmill is not likely to get sued for walking too fast. The mammographer could get sued for reading too fast.

I answered Lustig's post that I would love to have a career in Numismatics if I could guarantee a decent income and benefits, especially as a buyer and/or grader for a large firm. It would be fun at least it seems that way looking in from this side of the fence.

Actually, I like my curent situation as I have quite a bit of free-time to stop and look at coin shops in my daily travels. As long as I have my phone in one hand I can be on the job and still viewing coins with the other. Not to mention that I charge all mileage to and from the coin shops to the company as well as lunch????

<< <i>In reality, I'm too addicted to quit. But a 9 to 5 job with minimal travel and no other headaches other than a pesky boss sure does sound good.

I'd love to be on the flip side-a collector. I'd really be able to push dealers buttons! I'd be able to get away with so much.... >>

I think it might depend on your means. I have caviar tastes on a steak budget. Not a Spam budget, but limited nevertheless. I have enough to spend a few hundred here, a hundred there, maybe a couple grand once in a while.

There are so many nice coins and rarities I'd love to be able to immerse myself in, but at my current means it's a fantasy and always will be.

I suppose the grass is always greener on the other side. But to me, even to do what that long-time Arizona collector recently did, work a couple hours a week in a local shop and identify a corroded 1794 large cent as a Starred Reverse variety...that just seems so mondo cool to me. Talk about coming home from the office, after working with one of your passions all day, and feeling THAT good about a job well done...

If I had very high means, I'd not feel the strong desire to be a dealer. All things being equal, I'd rather keep the interest high by keeping it a hobby and not a career. But if I can't do that, I still think working with coins all day would be a pretty damn cool gig.
