Cracking out and Population reports

I know that cracking out and resubmission has become very popular lately. Won’t this skew the population reports ? If a coin has been resubmitted several times, then it would be counted more than once. In the long run, this activity could have a significant effect on the accuracy of those numbers. Something to worry about?

People bring up this issue all the time. The best answer is not to take the POP reports too seriously. (Collect coins not numbers.)

Max, also, PCGS has a deal going on where they will send you 50 cents for each certificate you turn in. When they receive these, they go back and update the pop reports.
  • I know of one particular issue with a mintage of 125 pcs that has a pop of over 200...........hope that answers your question.

It's really ashame. The pop reports could actually be a useful device if only they were correct.
