My hope is for a $5 special on oversized cards like 1964 Topps Giants and such and maybe finally something for 1970 and 1971.

I also wanted to send a $5 submission and I've actually never sent one in. The only submission that I have made (few years ago) was in person and they took and corrected the forms for me. Gotta get crackin' here and figure this out quickly! Hope that the instructions on the PSA site explain it clearly.

50's cards and the 70-71's are due for a $5 special. I think a few guys will be leary of sending in any cards for specials when there is no guaranteed turn around time. Too many of our CC friends are having long waits on grades including myself. My $5 special was logged in on 5/31 and is still not graded and many others are at 40 or more days! I personally am passing on any specials until I see quicker turn around times!!! Paul

If everyone passed on the specials and paid full price they wouldn't need to run specials. Too many fringe cards for me to pay up just to get my cards back in 5 days.

The way the market for modern is going PSA can not afford to do away with the modern $5 special all together. Subs will no doubt dry up for what is becoming their bread and butter .... MODERN!

Lets have a $5.00 special for 71. Lets quit treating 1971 like the red headed step son on specials, ok? image

glossycrazy, I think one of the keys to getting a reasonable turnaround time on a $5 special is to get your submission in as soon as possible after the special starts. The longer the special goes, the further behind PSA gets on their turnarounds. 40 days is not an unreasonable amount of time to wait for grades. PSA is very up front about turnaround time on their $5 specials, giving an estimate of 45 days, but making it clear that this is not guaranteed.

Personally, I don't mind the wait if it means saving a few bucks. After all, $3 per card in savings adds up in a hurry! I sent in a 24-card submission in early May, which I got back well within the estimated time. I wanted to send in another submission, but I just haven't had the time lately to get it together before the end of June.

I honestly don't think there is any correlation between how early you submit your cards during a special and how fast you get them back. My sub was May 16 and the cards were graded June 10. Many subs. in early June were graded before mine and got done in mere days, not weeks like mine. It is truly pot luck.

  • The '71 Topps crew should be happy.

  • Wow, I was wondering if PSA would include 1970 and 1971 cards in a special. I hope all those who have been calling for the 1970s and '71s will get the chance to send in their cards now.

  • I am thrilled! imageimageimageimage My guess is that I will be sending in about 50 - 75 cards from 1970 and 1971. I have been waiting a long, long time for this special. Too bad it happened after I completed my 1971 set, but maybe I can get a bunch of upgrades for my registry sets from my raw sets.

  • For the commons special, it states no cards over $500, and no star players. What is considered a star player? Would a 69 bobby bonds be considered a star? or do they mean only no mantles and mays? where do you draw the line?

I'd say unless they have 500 HRs or 300 wins, they are common....image

Is it the 1960s' turn to have the same thing (i.e., drop in values) happen to the 1970s' because of their recent special?

I will take advantage of this for my 1963 set, as well as getting some of the 1964 and 1965 graded so I can sell them better. Getting 60% of SMR for graded is better than getting 30% of Beckett for raws.
  • Thats funny that they say commons only and show a card of Ernie Banks.
