The '52 reprints from 1983 are a great set, despite being scaled down to post-1957 size and the reverse not looking much like the real thing. Just as well on both counts, or we'd have even more bogus '52 Mantles on eBay ... with just a bit of paper loss on the reverse where it says "reprint," of course.
Mantle is extremely tough to find perfectly centered AND with mint corners. Only 31 Micks have been pulled out of their sets for grading, and of those only ONE has graded an unqualified 9 Mint. There are 16 PSA 8's (one of which came out of my set), two 8 OC's, a solitary 9, and a pair of 9 OC's. No 10's.
Did some more research and it says this set from topps is missing 5 players from the original, because their rights could not be obtained.
Interesting? Anyone know the story behind it?
And yes, the cards are scaled down to current standards, still, to have some razor sharp shiny examples of this vaunted set would be nice to own (and you better believe I'd open it and put them in a roop binder).

back in 1982 topps reprinted the set. it comes in a blue box and gold lettering i think......180.00 is a decent price imo.
especially since it is from a reputable seller and he claims it is fresh from a case. the mantle sells for around 50.00 if memory serves me.
hope that helped.

Hope this helps,

The Mantle card is a beauty IMO.
