One of the nicest coins ever minted, IMHO.
I have a 1963 Peso with a similar design, but MUCH less pricey!
I also have a 1891 5 Francos. Very similar, but nowhere near as nice!

Thanks. I bought the coin at a coin show because I really liked the image of Liberty and also because it was inexpensive. I just went over to E-bay to look up similar coins and found this one Link to auction of similar coin that claims to be a rare variety. It states "DOMINICAN REPUBLIC 1897-A 1 PESO SCARCE TYPE III WITH THE APEX OF THE MINT MARK BETWEEN "T" AND "R" OF PATRIA." So now I am wondering if mine is the same or a more common variety. Mine has the A mintmark and the apex of the mintmark is sort of between the T and the R but more towards the T. Anybody familiar with this one want to verify that mine is the common variety (which it most likely is)? Just checking
