I'm calling the graders out on this one!!!

I understand the O/C part, but how the hell did this ever reach a 9 abosulute laugher

If i were the Prez i would be asking for his resignation. Anyone who doesn't believe that DSL and 4SC gets special treatment all you have to do is keep coming back to this card.

That is unbelievable. I am truly stunned. That card is a piece of crap and I don't know what the heck PSA is thinking here.

    Wow ...... not too pretty.

I will say this as have others before me. PSA does not deduct for rough cuts. They just don't. I am in no way trying to
defend the grade on that card but just stating something I have noticed CONSISTENTLY.

I suppose it could be a 9 from the viewpoint of ... uh ... oh never mind. I just can't do it. DaBigHurt, your cue.

    It's easy to explain - that's a DSL 9.

If that happens to sell for $9.99, then the buyer will do well for himself. And if dsl is willing to sell if for $9.99 I say "No Harm No Foul".

Maybe the grader wrote 7 oc and the flip person misread the handwriting?

Ouch! I hear you on that one Carew29. I have 5's that look better than that. By the way, Carew29 as a Minnesotan, I am also a fan of Carew. My brother wants me to pick him up a high grade 68 and 76 Carew, what would I be looking to spend for an 8 or 9?

Isn't all the white we see just a result of the rough cut?
  • DaBigHurtDaBigHurt Posts: 1,066 ✭✭
We should keep in mind that you can't really judge a card with just a scan. There are many scanners that just aren't that good and distort the image. image

GO MARLINS! Home of the best fans in baseball!!
  • You have to look at the overall appeal of the card. there is no way anyone can tell me the "rough cut" and the rediculous top/bottom centering doesn't detract from the overall look of the card. mint?!

That thing looks like absolute crap, not "mint".

Personally, I think the "token quota retard" at PSA graded this one. So I think its a geniune "PSA 9TQR"

I hate to say this, but... I think DBH has a point. Now don't get me wrong-- I'm not going to stand in line for a chance to bid on this card. And it certainly does appear from the scan to be a dog. But if PSA is doing DSL favors it probably isn't by sneaking this card into a 9OC holder.
  • Carew29Carew29 Posts: 4,025 ✭✭

Someone made a reference to a rough cut---That is what you would expect on a OPC card, not a Topps card. Leave to DBH to blame the scanner. With all the money DSL has been racking in, you're gonna tell me they scan with a piece ofimage? How's that Kool -Aid tastin'?
  • If a poop was in a PSA 9 holder some people would still bid on it. Of course if this card ends up in you-know-who's hands it'll be label "PSA 10: SMR $305".

Well, for the first time ever I'm going to side with DBH on this one. You really can't tell much from a low quality scan like that. If DSL had set it against a light background, we'd all be calling it a "blazer", but using a dark background behind a dark-bordered card has the tendency to bring out the edges more.

About 1971 Topps Baseball with those black borders...I remember opening packs as a kid and sometimes there was already chipping on the cards. Perhaps the card doesn't have any wear but happened to be one of those cards with chipping right out of the pack.

  • What a shock, Nomar is buying the card! He'll have it up on ebay in about an hour, claming that he "wuz robbed" when he submitted it and it should really be a PSA 11.
