it blows me away, on a daily basis, seeing such modern coins go for such high prices.
there has to be some sort of "disease" that sets in while collecting for modern coins. At first you pay prices that are sane/low for coins that are common you like.
Then you pick a series to collect, and start aquiring them. Everything is between a range of $1-50.
What happens next, I just do not understand. In a rush to finish, the price becomes rather meaningless. You just want it, and want it now. Laziness breaks the supply and demand structure... in other words, you could call 10 coin stores in one day, and probably get a better deal via phone for the same thing.
Spam? Hardly, about every set is selling for big bucks! I wish I'd brought one of my brothers 10 sets he was selling to a dealer for $250 each. Makes me wonder if I shouldn't buy the only other silver set I don't have the 2001!
