opinion on 23sfh slq upgrade

purchased a 23sfh slq in a old green holder in 62 condition a few months ago and the more i looked at it it looked to me like it should upgrade. talked with several dealers and the said it wouldnt be worth the cost to send it in . the difference between a 2 and a 3 wasnt worth the money. we are all intitled to our opinion- thats what grading is all about-anyway last week i recieved my quarter back and yes it did upgrade to a 63fh. i believe that down the road say 5 years that the difference will be worth it. My biggest question is that how can myself as a little collector know the difference between a two and a three. the greysheets i have seen dont go down that low . splitting the fine hairs of grades like 61-62 are tough(at least for me) and where do i get a fairly accurate price guide. Any comment on my upgrade and difference in grades is appreciated.

    bare25man,

Glad to hear of the upgrade and now I'm sure you're pleased you didn't listen to those who told you not to bother. You just got a price jump of around $500.

Grading the SLQ is extremely difficult in MS grades. There are subtle differences between a 63 and a 62. Its more of a gut feeling you acquire when you've examined enough of them.

I know of no complete pricing guide for SLQ's in all possible MS grades with and without FH designation. Grey sheet doesn't provide enough information and neither does CW's "CoinValues" - although CW does have a better breakdown.

Again, congratulations on your bump in grade, I'm sure its a beautiful looking coin.
