1983 Topps Vending

Can anyone tell me their results on busting a vending box, including condition of corners? If you have busted a vending case what were those results. There are 24 boxes @ 500 cards per box in a case. If I busted a few boxes and the centering is pretty bad, 70/30, will the remained of the case have the same centering problems? I am thinking about a vending case.

I have busted a few boxes this year corners were mostly dinged. Got a few nice cards( rose and sandberg mint 9.) If I were going to buy a whole case I would want to buy the whole case unopened. You may want to check with Steve at BBC Exchange.

  • Well I think most of the guys who rip 70's stuff don't care for vending.I realize it's cheaper but if most of the cards are going to be damaged what's the point.I would say go the wax box route instead.

But doesn't DSL commonly list raw cards that are "from vending?" That always made me think he was getting his modern slabbed cards from vending as well.

To answer the original question, I've only busted one vending case - 1986 topps - and, in terms of condition, the results pretty much sucked. But so far everything else I've opened with 1986 topps cards in it has sucked, so it might not be a good comparison.

The few vending boxes I've bought have also been pretty terrible, but it's easy to check a vending box for condition. I definately won't buy single boxes again.

No doubt about it - and there have been many threads here about it. "Fresh from vending" sounds better than it actually is, in my experience, vending boxes from the '70s and '80s have pretty much been awful. In order, I prefer rack boxes (sealed rack cases are ideal), and then wax boxes. Vending and cellos have been far worse in finding gradeable cards.

I would like to chime in ....

I would not touch 70's vending or ANY vending with a 100 foot pole. I just don't like vending at all. I have had great results with wax and rack. I will not stray from these!

  • I had mixed results from the vending. 4 Boxes were ok and 1 was awful. A few commons that would grade nicely. Over all not bad. Rack packs are the way to go !

I have had mixed results as well. I just busted an 86 vending case too, and 10's are going to be tough. You can expect a few 10's(maybe), a handful(20-30) 9's, and tons of 8's. IME

As far as if one or two boxes are OC, I don't think the case will all be. A single box will be consistent in centering, at least somewhat consistent, but I don't think it carries over to the other boxes.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like I will stay away from the '83 vending, but damn that wax is expensive. I saw there is '83 michigan wax. From what I can tell, is the only difference between that and regular wax the tamper proof packaging?

    Yes.

I bought a box of the Michigan's a while back and did pull a sweet Boggs. The box I got was in awesome condition overall.
