Speaking of crackouts and raw card sellers...

...has anyone else ever received a raw "mint" card off ebay that was still sealed in BGS' little interior sleeve?

I've always thought that was pretty funny.

That hasn't happened to me yet. Although I'm sure it's coming.

You have to admit-- they are sweet penny sleeves image
  • LOL, not yet. If it looks mint, check the surface - they are brutal on that.

It's happened to me three times with three different sellers. I never had any trouble figuring out why the card wasn't gradeable.

Maybe they just do it to me because my snipes are always set at 70-75% off the usual end price. When they see the final sale price, they probably just say, ah, screw it...

I don't get it, David. If it's in the plastic sleeve then is WAS gradeable, right?

Also, are they pulling some kind of switcharoo on you, and sending you cards that are different from the one pictured in the auction?

I was just responding to cornholio's advice about looking at the surface. I meant that I didn't have any trouble seeing the cards' flaws. I guess it was gradeable to the original submitter's eyes. They were all newer cards that would probably grade about an 8.

But it was funny when I re-read the auctions and they all said something like "guaranteed to grade high." I emailed one of them and said something like "so, um, how high did it grade?" Even though I let him know I had already left positive feedback and didn't buy it with the expectation of grading it, he didn't respond. Maybe he was embarassed that he forgot to remove the sleeve?

I don't think any of those sellers pulled a switch, though that has happened frequently with chrome cards (switching centered versions with off-center versions). You just couldn't see the sleeve in the scans.

I've had that happen so often that I now email all seller's after the auction ends and tell them I expect the exact card that was pictured, and that if they can't deliver that card then to call the auction off.

    That's an interesting point.
I would be especially worried with a guy who pulls the scans right after the auction ends!
If the card is raw and states that's the card you are going to get - "save" the scan - otherwise there might be a problem. Has this ever happened to anyone? Where you go back to look at the card and its gone?
Just wondering...easy way to screw a guy.

I've never had that happen, where they take the scan down. Most seller, IMExperience, don't want to deal with a feedback war. If you make your case clearly at the end of the auction I don't think you would usually have a problem
