show me your gold that is < XF and why did you not wait for a better example?

for some odd reason, i find my eye drifting to very pleasant looking XF half eagles.
Not only is there a price break it looks a lot better than some of its cousins in higher grades.

dirt in the shield, around the data, making it so plainly visible and outlined.
orange around the rim, going to more yellow as it gets close to the center.
some luster left in the cracks, arouund the rim and stars, it outlines ms. liberty.

nice looking coins, if you can find them.

show me yours, nothing better than a xf45 please.

I'm not sure what this would grade at, but purchased it raw off of E-Bay a while ago. I bought it because it was at a cheap price (about $150), and I didn't own any non-bullion gold coins. In addition, it's from the year 1880 which is part of a 'pre-centennial of my birth' collection that I'm putting together. I like it just because it's an actual American gold coin and it looks great to me.
I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.

I just sold off an XF Type II gold dollar. It was overgraded in an AU holder. I bought it for a gold type set and it was all that I could afford.

    I have a 1745 Spanish half-escudo that I would call VG10. That's the only under-EF gold I have at the moment.

    This Netherlands/Zeeland 1597 ducat is ANACS EF45.

I have nothing against VF original rare date gold. Here's a key date 70-CC coin, PCGS VF-35. I could not afford one in any higher grade:

This coin was net graded VG-10 by ANACS. I think they were a little harsh. What do you think?

jdurg - I will own that coin some day soon i imagine.

leeg- oof, i need that one. But looks pretty rough for the grade. something about ngc i do not care for, grading wise.

killian - that is a coin i like.

ryk - "you suck". I like that CC a lot. the 1839 looks about right. that rim damage is probably what did it?

i just lost, bidding on flea bay for a 1898-S in pcgs xf45. I bid 190 dollars. That is AU money for a pretty common coin.
Someone else wanted it more than me! It sure did look pretty.

    thanks for posting

edited to add: h0h0h0, fleabay sprouted another 1898S, but in pcgs AU53. Sometimes losing is a good thing!
just maybe, i will snag this better example for less/same/bit more. sweet

reedited again: coin, upon closer examination is butt ugly. pass. c'est la vie.
