i am interested in half eagles. i am looking for a pcgs graded C CC or old D in XF-AU for a budget minded collector. offers?

What I am getting at, is that since I collect half eagles I am looking to branch out with
a different mintmark, something besides S and P.

Now please do not break out laughing when I say I have a budget.
Anything between 160-500, or I would stretch further for the right coin.

I am just wondering if anyone out there has something they would part with.

thank you for reading.

and stop laughing! :-)

Other than the 91-CC, you are going to (honestly) have a very difficult time finding XF/AU C, CC, O, and D coins within your budget. Personally, I would scrap the P and S common date coins and buy the better branch mint dates (trade quantity for qulaity). JMO. Good Luck! Robert
  • I don't think that there is a Dahlonega half eagle out there obtainable in
    PCGS F15 for $500, let alone XF-AU.

I think that you need to significantly up your budget, or wait a bit.

    I agree about the D.

But I know there is a CC out there that wants to come home with me.
I forgot of course to list O.

There are more common CC and O half eagles. Maybe someone wants to sell one.

Thanks for not laughing. I truly understand your point. Those D and C coins are in DEMAND.

There are the 90 to 93-CC $5's, which can be had in XF for $500. The 44-O and 94-O $5's can also be had in choice XF for about $500. That's it.

I've been looking for a "budget" Dahlonega coin myself -- best prospect I've come up with is a PCGS VG10 for high 1200's, which I just can't see doing for a coin that isn't very nice to look at...

Things are probably about the same for Charlotte coins, although they seem much easier to find.

$600 or so can get you into a sweet choice AU CC though, in the aforementioned dates.
