Great Article About Dock Ellis

The Dallas Observer has an excellent article about Dock Ellis, his baseball antics, battles with substance abuse and eventual success as a drug counselor. Link to story here.

For anyone who loves 60s-70s baseball, it's a must read.

I laughed out loud several times, but this was the best, in reference to Barry Bonds and his body armor:

"I'd hit him at least once a game. 'Cause he's got all that **** on. Yeah, let's see that **** stop the ball from hurting him if I hit him on the mother******* elbow or something. I'd hit him just to see, does it work?"

    Hillarious.

I first read this at work and I had to struggle mighty hard to not burst out laughing several times. I'll never look at my Ellis cards the same again.

    What a ball player!
  • What an interesting read. Those were certainly some crazy times. "Ball Four" by Jim Bouton also chronicled the wild late '60s baseball era. It's nice to know that Ellis has gotten his life in a more stable order and is performing some admirable work. He was/is quite a character!
