To submit coins who should I go with???

image

I have collected coins for several years, but need to start over due to theft (but anyway)...., I have never submitted coins for grading.

I have looked at several companies, but I still need info.

Who would you go with for price vs. rep vs. grading standard.....ect?

That's for both US and foriegn gold and plat. coins.

Thanks all

U.S. coins go to PCGS and foreign stuff to ANACS....at least that's how I'd do it.
  • Thanks for the quick responce.

I see that if I join ICG I get 5 free submittions for 5 paid. for 15 ......pcgs I get 8 free for 190????

Who has the best price per membership for this?

You might want to consider NGC or ANACS instead of PCGS. You don't have to "join" ANACS to submit coins, and the introductory deal at NGC is better than at PCGS.

NGC LINK, 5 free gradings for $99 membership fee.

I would really stay far away from those lower level TPG's (PCI, ICG, NTC, SEGS just to name a few). They may be cheaper to be a member and to submit coins but the coins you get slabbed will not be properly graded and will lose sellability once in that plastic. I suggest you stick with the three big boys of grading; PCGS, NGC and ANACS. You get what you pay for.

When it comes to non US coins, ICG is just as good if not better than the top three companies, great holder too. Also, they're practically the only service that grades ancients.

edit: NGC coins have the biggest exposure when selling.
edit 2: ANACS is the only service that (net) grades numerically problem (cleaned etc) coins.

The eight "freebies" at PCGS can only be US coins these days.

As for where to send them, it depends on what they are and what your motives are.

Selling soon? Go with the service that maximizes your value:
    ICCS for high quality Canadian.
PGCS for high quality from few countries like Switzerland.
    ICG for medieval and ancients.
NGC for most other stuff, but especially colorful coins.
ANACS for problem coins that are often counterfeited and perhaps varities.

Just looking for a reasonable grade and a nice protective holder?
Any of PCGS, NGC, ANACS or ICG will do just fine.

Looking to pawn of problem coins as problem free?
NTC, SEGS or PCI are the way to go.

Keeping them and don't care about the grade?
    Airtites work great.

What are you going to do with the coins once they are slabbed? If you are going to keep them and want accurate grading, go with ICG, if a coin is bodybagged they only charge you $5. PCGS and NGC will charge you the full fee.

If you plan on selling the coins and can wait three months to get them back, go with PCGS. They probably have the overall higher selling value.

If you plan on selling them and don't want to wait three months, use NGC. They sell for very close to PCGS for most coins.

  • Thanks,

It will depend on the coin and the way I recieved it......gift,willed,bought,ect....as what I do with them.

I normally buy to keep, but I did recentily buy 2 gold 2 plat Eagles at a good price . MS 69 PCGS graded.........I plan on keeping 1 plat. and selling the other 3 coins for 50 under grade value.....that way I get the 1 plat. Eagle for free.
