Is this Montana PSA 10 material?

1981 Topps Montana rookie. It's
in the new SCD 10. Best example I've seen. What do you think? Think it will end at PSA 9 SMR price?
PSA 10 crossover?

I ask because I bought SCD 10 (new SCD) 83 Topps
Boggs. Card was perfect except for the surface which has those light circles which you couldn't see from the scan. The type you get from picture developments that leave the chemical spots.....is that what it's called. Anyways, card came back a PSA 9.

Ah, I've seen that term before, but never knew exactly
what they were. Thx. Suxs, my card was flooded with them
on the front surface tilting it in the light. My first baseball card
    in over 5 years.

  • I dont know if the "new" SCD has anything to do with the old and original SCD. I think this was discussed before. I dont see how you can purchase a name (which isnt the original name anyway) and continue to grade cards not using the original graders and call it the "same" company.....

The Montana looks sweet, but the scan could be better. Without better resolution you can't get an idea of the sharpness and any hard to see defects. The holder also gets in the way when scanning sometimes also.
As shown I would be safe and say 9, but who knows?
Maybe the seller can give you a 300(or better) dpi scan.

An SCD 10 recently sold for $560. Actually, I thought it was the same card until I noticed the label was different.

Sports Cards Digest is the new SCD. They bought out the old SCD (Sports Collector's Digest) grading venture. That is why everything looks the same; the holder, flips, etc. They can still use the same acronym, just not the name. This is what I was told by the company and other sources. I may be bidding on the card itself...not the holder. I suspect most of their 10s are probably 9 anyways and would only bid accordingly.

In a sense, it's not the same orginal company which I agree as some of the latest samples aren't really 10 grades.

My original question is does it look like a possible PSA 10 crossover?
My thought is it may end PSA 9 SMR give or take a few bucks. I'm actually surprised at the original auction shown by SDavid w/ the original SCD (Sports Collector's Digest) only went for so little. That one is sweet too. These 2 look identical.

I think the '49ers' and 'QB' on the card look fishy.. too bold.

I overlapped the PSA 10 Montana over the SCD Montana perfectly and faded the transparency in and out of the PSA 10 and the cards are identical except for the 49ers and QB text and the little bit of yellow bottom right of 'MONTANA' on the PSA 10..

If it's real it has got a good shot at a PSA 10 if you happen to get a nice grader.

edited to add.. it could be just the poor scan.. the 49er and QB thing..
