Some of the TPG's must be getting desperate....

I know we have all seen some coins in holders that are probably 2-3 grades lower, but it is unbelievable that anyone would grade this one MS66.

Quote from the seller....

"THERE'S NOT ANOTHER ONE LIKE THIS IN THE WORLD! THE SCANS COULDN'T CAPTURE THE INCREDIBLE BEAUTY OF THE COLORS AND DON'T DO THIS COIN JUSTICE!!! IT IS LOADED WITH LUSTER!!!"

My azz!

I give it a F to VF something and that's being nice. If the seller is a regular on this forum...... thhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

  • It could be MS with a horrible strike or AU, but certainly not a 66.

I wish there was a way to stop this referencing of top-tier slab catalog values for Crap-U-Slab coins. It's gotten to be a standard selling practice on Slezebay!

i do not see the problem.
you probably have not been informed, but NTC's grading scale goes to 100.

NTC is simply junk and I would not waste my time looking at a coin in their holder.image
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.
  • Not an expert by any means.

The 41-44 S Mints are notorious for weak strikes, this appears to be the worst of the worst !

It may be an MS coin, but certainly no better than a 60 !

PCGS and NGC would likely give it a 40 to 45 because of the terrible strike, look at the devices that are lower relief, looks pretty good.

I might go 20 bucks if i had enough to drink !

  • PCGS would bodybag it for AT. JMHO.

He only wants $2k for it too! image

I also agree that it looks AT- wouldn't touch it with proof's $20....
My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable !
  • I stand by my grade, but i also agree its a blow torch special !

This Dave from Hawaii is obviously a CROOK. There's no other word for it. Con artist works for me too. With a 99% approval rating it would appear that he suckers in 99% of his bidders. Anyone know this crook?

The coin is a piece of swill. And I just love his warning to the snipers out there just might try to "steal" his wonder gems early image

    SNIPERS BEWARE!

I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END MY AUCTIONS EARLY AT ANY TIME SO IF YOU WANT MY COINS YOU BETTER BID ON THEM EARLY!

I have a Walker with the exact same type of toning that's in PCGS plastic.

Experimenting creating AT coins, so I would know how to spot AT coins when looking to buy, I've made coins that looked just like that...I can even post the ingredients and how to get these colors image

There is NO WAY that coin would slab at PCGS...it's AT all the way! image

Grade wise, it's a cleaned coin on top of that, and that is why it was toned in the first place...that's why the seller says "It's got excellent luster under the toning"...cleaned coins are booming/bright white. So if the coin didn't BB for AT, it would BB for cleaning. In either scenario, it's grade becomes irrelevant.

There are weakly struck walkers in "s" mint, but here's an "s" mint walker graded for reference (this coin is one of the nicest 4's I've seen, and perhaps a 5 some day)....the MS66 is a "TAD" bit zealous by NTC image

All you need to make a toned coin like that is a hot cast iron skillet. Just get it hot and put the coin in to fry. The length of time in the pan determines the final color(s). If you want to get fancy put a metal washer in the skillet and let it get hot then put the coin on top of the washer. That will give you an album toned look.

I made a Merc look just like that once...

1 - Hard boiled crushed egg
1- Slice of Vidalia onion -- 1/8" thick
2- Tablespoons of Apple Vinegar 5%
1- Rubber ring from inside of a cracked out PCGS holder to put the coin in
    1- Tupperware container
1- Fishtank to put the mixture under the hood of to get some heat/moisture
    6- hours of wait time
3 - days to soak in Acetone to get rid of the smell image

This mixture yielded different results on different coins, but one result looked like the Walker in the NTC holder.
