MS68-69s in the new mint sets? Not in the three I got

Just got the three mint sets I ordered. While the finish is nice, I sure don't see any of these going over 66.
I think that guy with all the PCGS 68-69s is going to be in a world of hurt.

My impression, from the auction information, was that he didn't have them in hand but they were on their way back from PCGS (I assume he saw the grades on-line).

The major difference is that it takes six figures to make all those coins.
Those prices are coing to shoot through the roof in the last moments of the auctions because there's more than one of us to figure out how rare some of them are.
My hat is off to him for stepping up to the plate.

That's what I thought, that he sent them in and listed them at his grade. We'll just have to keep an eye on his feedback.

-Since they're still making these I wonder how you've figured they're rare?

I make these coins too. Some of those are very rare.

He was very nice to talk to. You might ask him.
on the registry forum about it
the pop report shows that even when the Mint was striking coins as before some MS68-69 examples were still being holdered, with that number climbing for the most difficult denominations in the past couple of years. once the current new process is refined we should see a steady supply of gems, that unless mishandled, should all grade MS68++, leaving the packaging as the most likely detriment that the Mint will need to change.
also, three sets is hardly enough of a sampling to give a realistic expectation as to quality.
my quick math says 3-4% from your still early and still small sampling, but from past knowledge your grade assumptions can probably be trusted. can you give a breakdown by denomination?? my hunch is that they are mostly cents, dimes and Sac Dollars.
that more than likely isn't a scrape from handling, it looks to either be an ejection problem, extreme flow lines or probably some type of problem with that particular die in that area. since you mentioned that all the coins had this in the same place, i'll say it's die fatigue.

OK. I guess I have four proof Bison nickels with "Tired Die Syndrome". Wonder if I could get PCGS designation for that?

The coins have not even been graded, and he's betting on the come. I eMailed him and asked for a cert number on an MS69 Kennedy. He tried to BS me by saying that you can't get cert numbers when a bulk submission result is posted.
Look for him to rack up the negatives over the next few weeks.
