Fixing PSA Labeling errors

I recently sent in a Set Registry special order. I got the grades tonight. PSA has 3 of the 35 cards mislabeled either year or brand. Has anyone had any luck calling them prior to their order shipping or do i have to wait and send them back to get them corrected? Do they give you a credit for correction submissions anymore?

I don't know if you can have them catch and fix the errors before they ship the cards, but I kind of doubt it. Once you get the cards, though, submit them on an invoice marked Other: Mechanical Error* and PSA will reholder/relabel them and ship them back at no cost to you. Well, other than the cost of sending them back to Newport Beach.

Yes you can get them fixed. Email some one in the set regisrty department and they will forward the info on the right person. I had some that were mislabled, just like you..year, card number, etc. I just sent them off yesterday. We will see when the show up. I was told that I would get a voucher for my expense to mail them back to PSA.

Well that's a new and exciting development. Did you have to ask for the voucher? I applaud PSA if they are now offering vouchers to cover the shipping of mechanical errors. That takes a lot of the sting out of having to put out more money to get it right.

I say you sell them on Ebay as Errors and they are 1/1?

I have never received a voucher for shipping back mechanical errors. If thats the case they owe me probably somewere in the neighborhood of 10 free submissions? My last order of 100 cards had 9 errors.

If I catch the error before it has shipped out I call immediately. PSA is batting 1.000 on getting it corrected and shipped properly.

Not to nitpick, but it's batting 1.000.

I suspect if you call them they hopefully can catch it before they mail them out..unless they just mistyped them on the submission status page.

Here is the quote from someone at PSA about sending them back

"Once the card(s) are corrected due to "mechanical errors," you
will be sent a grading voucher to compensate you for the shipping back
to PSA, this voucher will arrive separate from your order. Again, I
apologize and thank you for your patience. "

Nine out of 100, jackstraw?!? That's horrible. I don't expect robotically consistent grading, but PSA should be close to perfect with the labels the first time around. They were with my last two invoices, which were both 20-25 cards, but the one before that had three mistakes on only 15 or so cards.

Maybe I take label accuracy way to seriously but I find these mistakes incredibly aggravating. Not only could so many of them be prevented with just a cursory glance at both sides of a card, but I suspect they chip away at consumer confidence in the whole operation. At least they do for me.

  • How do they treat a mislabeled card that was graded a few years ago, and sent in. Will they still re-slab it?
    I have a 1960 topps #548 Mincher labeled as a #542 Hamlin.
I collect 1960 Topps baseball, raw and PSA. 1971 Topps baseball, raw.1975 topps baseball, raw(Done). 1959 topps baseball.

  • I've been submitting cards for the past four years and only recently had my first mislabel problem. One out of over 2000 is not bad, but if there are a number of recent problems maybe PSA needs to take a closer look.

I've also noticed a few error label cards up for sale lately and have purchased one myself due to needing the card for my set.

I hope more collectors will share on this matter.

  • It is my experience that they will correct any error they make w/o charge and eventually issue you a grading voucher to cover shipping cost. This also extends to errors after the fact; i.e., a variation is discovered after some cards have been graded. I have never had a problem but the time and effor is a drain.

I was rather surprised to see this card up on eBay. Not only did PSA misspell the player's last name, but m_t_g perpetuated the error, and even the PSA pop report shows the wrong name. image
