Does anyone have any experience with crossing gold coins from NGC to PCGS?

I heard that PCGS was more strict on gold coins. Has anyone tried to cross gold from NGC to PCGS and specifically, what have your results been (percentage that crossed, etc.)? Thanks.

I've never crossed anything, so I am not sure of the process. But I think there is an option to tell PCGS that if it does not cross at the same grade, to just send you the coin back in the original holder. Is that correct? Does anyone know? I prefer PCGS slabs.

I've never tried to cross any gold, but rather chose to submit gold coins that come back BB as not genuine.

But, yes, you can specify a minimum grade when submitting a cross over. If it makes the grade you specify it gets holdered, if not it is returned back to you in the original holder.

But you pay the same amount either way.

  • If you look at the PCGS submission form, you will see a column that says "MIN. GRADE". and under it is the word "optional". If you leave this column blank, PCGS will grade your coin and will cross it to their slab, "as long as it meets or exceeds the grade in the other slab". If your coin does not meet PCGS grade, it will be returned just as you submitted it. The "MIN. GRADE" column is there to allow you to accept a lesser grade for your crossover coin than is stated on the other company slab.

I believe I am four-for-four in terms of crossing NGC-slabbed gold coins into PCGS holders. All were graded NGC MS61 or MS62 and I think all went up one point.
