NTC and dealer market

I know many here do not trust NTC grading and I do not either however, I just had to buy an NTC slab on eBay to see for myself. It is a 1936 P MS67 RD designation by NTC but to me would probably pass as a 64 but likely not a 65. The coin is red and lists for $100 in that grade in CW values. I bought it for $14 including shipping. My question is: If I leave the coin in the slab could I expect a dealer to give me around the value of an MS67? I do not know the gray sheet price for this coin or if dealers honor NTC slabs as well as the the top three. Any advice welcome and much appreciated. Thanks.

I think you answered your own question. Unless you are using the term "dealer" to also mean someone who doesn't know anything about coins, how could you expect a "dealer" to pay you the value of a 67 when you yourself think it is a 64?

  • I'd probably just give you raw $ for it.

I'd give you the world, just because...

Speak to me of loved ones, favorite places and things, loves lost and gained, tears shed for joy and sorrow, of when I see the sparkle in your eye ...
and the blackness when the dream dies, of lovers, fools, adventurers and kings while I sip my wine and contemplate the Chi.
  • I like the coin. I'll bust it out and add it to my '36 collection.

Before I was I educated, I bought 3 NTC's. All went to PCGS for grading. Here is the results:

    All Lincolns

    1909 S NTC MS 65 PCGS MS 63
    1932 NTC MS 67 PCGS MS 64
    1930 D NTC MS 66 PCGS MS 64

    Hope this helps

I brought some of the NTC and PCI high grade coins to finish out my Franklin album. For some reason people tend to bid big bucks for a raw coin on a chance that it's as good as a person claims but most won't bid on these MS65+ coins in second tier holders. They were certainly overgraded but I was building a nice MS63+ set and the prices were right for cracking out for an album.image
