Hats off to Andy for all the time and effort he's put into it. The rest of us get to enjoy the fruits of his labor.

Looking forward to seeing what all the sets consist of. The preview I've seen re: small cents is pretty cool although VERY challenging. There are going to be very few sets with 100% completion.

Having been fortunate enough to have seen some of Mr. Hagen's patterns before, it's probably a good thing that I won't make it to SF. I'd probably wet myself if I saw all those at once. And that set coupled with Mr. Larson's.... whoa.

Actually, now I'm really bummed that I won't make it. Crap. But those of you who will get to see them - enjoy!

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Should be a good time. Unfortunately, because of a vacation crunch, will only be there a short time. Hopefully they won't offer anything good at the auctions or on the bourse until I get there....image

"The Registry will consist of 97 sets, including 21 complete sets. It is the first time U.S. patterns ever have been categorized by sets. This helps collectors focus on completing specialized sets, rather than making random acquisitions for their collections," said David Hall, PCGS Founder and President.

That's the key thing. In the past, so many people have looked at the Judd book or at my showcase and their eyes glazed over. They had no idea where to begin and no idea where they could go. Most of these people ended up walking away and collecting something else, or maybe they would get a coin or two or three and then be done. The Registry Sets really can change that. When people start looking over the 97 sets, they're going to realize how collectable the coins really are. It will be very tempting!

Hardly. It will probably take a few years before much changes. Until then, I'd be surprised to see more than a few people seriously pursuing any given set, with perhaps half a dozen exceptions.
