New Collector Question - Bowman 1950 baseball

After looking at the baseball card options, I have decided to pursue the Bowman 1950 series in PSA 8 condition. Primary reason was I grew up very near Wrigley Field and always had grandstand passes to the Cubs games at that time. My uncle had a tavern close to the park and several of the Cub players would "unwind" there after the game - the source of the passes. The series also offers a chance at completion given my budget. I also like the Bowman Color 1953 series but it is quite a bit more expensive in PSA 8, hence the 1950 choice.
1. eBay looks to be a fairly good source of cards, especially commons. One of the things I noticed is that the majority of sellers do not offer a return privelege on certified cards. Is there a particular reason for this? (Certified coins are generally returnable on eBay).
2. Are the chances any good for finding the 1950 Bowman series at local shows or do most sellers use the internet for this series?
3. Are there any "major" sized shows and what are they called? Frequency?
4. Has the market for this series declined in popularity lately?
5. It appears to me that there can be quite a bit of difference in quality between cards graded PSA 8. Is that my imagination? Was there a period when gading standards were looser?
6. How much influence does the reverse of the card have on a PSA 8 grade? I have seen some that were stained quite badly.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Ill try to answer your questions as best i can.
1 No Returns.......most sellers of graded material enforce that rule it stinks but that is the way it goes it seems. Many feel that it is not an approval system and that if a card grades out that should be the last word.
2. Im sure some can be found on the show circuit but the best bet would be ebay or dealers websites.
3. The National show is I believe in Chicago this year.
4. I dont know
5. Early Bowmans came in 1 cent packs (1 card to a pak) and thus many are found stained. They also came in a nickel pak that contained 6 cards. The major grading company's do not downgrade for this flaw for this reason. However If I was bidding and or buying sight unseen I would want a scan or description of the back jusdt for that reason. Another factor in early Bowmans that is not a problem it seems to the graders are print lines.
Good Luck in your quest

I am a buffalo collector myself.
Usually reputable sellers allow for a return given an understable and logical reason. If you're returning it because you think it's not a PSA 8, you'll likley get rejected.

If you're finding stars, go with the internet. Commons...shows are a good place to find them.
3. Are there any "major" sized shows and what are they called? Frequency?
Depends on where you are. The above poster mentioned the national. I live in CA and the tristar shows are the big ones.
4. Has the market for this series declined in popularity lately?
Nope. Still as strong as ever. This series still pales in comparison to the 48 and 49 series because of their rookie cards, the 51 series because of mays, ford and mantle, the 52 series because of musial, mays and mantle, 53 color because of the design and 54 series because of mantle, mays and williams. But it is still a very attractive set with good stars (the last bowman jackie robinson card appears in this set). I think the set's popularity is not declining, but is less than most of bowman's other sets.

<< <i>I thought the national was in Cleveland this year. No? >>
I believe it is. This thread is from 2005.
