Customized cards for PSA/DNA

Hey Knuckles

When you customized your cards, did you cut out the middle or was the signature glued on top.
I'm currently working on my Hall of fame card set, but I'm finding that it's not as easy to cut with an exacto knife than I originally though. I made a test sample for non-sports a Tribute card of Tonythe tiger (Thurl Ravenscroft). Just to see if I could do it. It's not as easy as I thought it was going to be. You can make the card look great on the computer, but my problems is making a clean cut. I must have screwed up a dozen times trying to get the card cut perfect. Also the paper I'm using is 10 lb paper stock, nothing else will fit in my printer. When I get a few more customized I'll probley submit them to PSA/DNA for slabbing and see what happens. I'll post my result then.

    Neat card Jery.

I did cut the middle out and you're right, it's not easy. With the Plante and Sawchuk I went through around 5 prints each before I was happy with the cut. A brand new sharp exacto ('x-acto') knife helps a lot along with a nice metal ruler.

Maybe you'll be the one who gets a feature in Beckett Baseball.. Good luck. image

Here's an image I made for Beckett to use in the upcoming feature about my cards showing the different layers..

I bet you could take orders from people that don't have the time, patience, materials or creativity to make their own cards. Might help support your habit while also improving your skills...

if you guys are having trouble with straight cuts....why not just buy a matte cutter? even with the cheapest, most ghetto fabulous cutter you'll save a ton of time and always have perfect cuts. I can't even imagine trying to use an exacto knife and a ruler....that's like using spray paint and a stencil to paint racing stripes on your car.

  • Knuckles, I may have asked this before, but are the logo's on your cards embossed or just copied? Those really look sharp.

I use a real paper cutter for cutting the card pieces out.. it's the middle part that the autograph shows through that needs to be carefully cut out with an exacto knife that's tricky.

They're not really embossed (punched out) it's just an effect I used on the logo's using the graphics program Adobe Photoshop.

  • Yeah, you can't use a matte cutter, I have one and it's not that easy, also the hole in the center needs an exacto.
I can cut 3 sharp corners, then always on the last cut, the blade goes off course...It's not as easy as it looks. But I'll
get the hang of it sooner or later.

Knuckles why don't you add those cards to the PSA set registery in the Hockey Hall of Fame, I'm just curious to see if your PSA serial numbers will let you add them to the set.

In the Baseball 'HOF Player' section of the registry there's a section for Hall of Fame Autographs... There isn't one for the Hockey 'HOF Player' section yet. When I'm done 10 cards I'll get them too add it and my cards. image

  • There isn't one for hockey autographs yet, you have to request that set.

I requested the set for the baseball autographs, they put it up pretty quick. I was just asking you, while you are waiting, you should try and add all those cards to the regular Hall of fame Hockey set, I want to know if they would register as cards...
