This is driving me nuts. I have a few PSA 7 Goudeys, but am dying to get a solid 8. Here is my latest loss that wasn't even close.
How do you reasonably determine worth when SMR is so off?
SMR $350

Is there any guide that is more accurate?

holy crap!
yes there is a better guide, I have been using the andale site for market analysis. I can't find the freebee anymore though?
Finally add in a large dose of stupidity.
Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's
I understand the frustration, but what I do for cards I am looking for is begin by tracking completed ebay auctions to gauge the recent range of activity..that is (to me) the best way to determine current market pricing. If I am still interested, then I begin to search and bid what I feel is appropriate.
<< <i>No guide is going to be accurate, especially on cards with limited market activity. How often does an 8 show up for sale? There is no way to accurately predict what the market will bear, especially if there is a new player to the set, or especially if multiple buyers are hungry for a card.

I do the same thing. I keep a little book by the computer and track sales of cards I become interested in. That way, I can shop until I get a "nice deal". And I know in the back of my mind I bought the card as "good" as I could've at that particular time. I little book is closer than SMR, I know that for sure.
As for that card GG, that's absolutely crazy. Plus, even when I know SMR is sometimes behind, I'd have a hard time paying $1200 plus for a card that books at $350.
?#@$%!

<< <i>Lost another 36 goudey PSA 7 that booked for $60 tonight. I bid $156 and it sold for $159.

I have a 7 of this card so its quite hard to justify spending 40 benjis to bump up one grade...
