I don't it would have made a difference. The dollar and the quarter were both clad, reeded, had a sort of stylized eagle on the reverse and a bust with "LIBERTY" above and a date below and, on top of it all, nearly the same size. Plus, as we all know, without the elimination of the dollar bill the dollar coin will go nowhere.
The dollar bill is the most critical. The sac solved just about all of the above problems of color and design. There is no mistaking a sac for a quarter but with the dollar bill mucking around, no dollar coin has a chance.
