1955 Koufax PSA 6- Is this real???

Bought this for my dad for Father's Day. Cert checks out but the font looks wrong to me. Is it an old font or did I get taken?

.....a most definite example of early font.

I believe the early graded cards all began with a 0 and the lettering etc was not so bold as cards graded today.

  • Its legit, but if you crack and resend I can almost guarantee that card wouldn't get a "6" today.

Thanks for the input guys- it's a load off my mind to know it's real. I don't think my dad, who hasn't owned a baseball card since the 60s, will be cracking and resubmitting, so that's not something that concerns me. I paid PSA 5 money for it so I think I got a reasonable deal.

    You think it's less than a 6?
  • I think the real old ones have a line through the 0's.

  • Lee,
Looks like a fine looking card with an old flip. From the pictures it looks like it could pull a 6 again to me.

A year ago it would have pulled a 6 without much trouble; under this year's standards it's a mid 5. What's the difference? CD's dad got a very attractive, genuine, unaltered, graded Koufax rookie for Father's Day. I wish CD was my kid!
  • Top right corner is too soft for a 6 in my opinion. as long as you "buy the card" your fine. since you got it for 5 prices, your fine. either way, it is a gift and isn't for resale so it ultimately doesn't matter.

Very interesting to see comments about PSA grading cards tougher this year as opposed to last. It is the minority thought process as I have read many detailed comments about how PSA is MUCH more lax nowadays.

Honestly, the first thing I thought after looking at the card itself was that it was a decent 5. Like I said I'm not too concerned either way as long as it's real. It took me 30 minutes to explain to my dad why it was in the slab so he doesn't know any better.

Yeah, secretly I was hoping the card didn't arrive in time so I'd go out and get him some golf balls and keep the card. Now I want one but the Clemente is first on my list.

Send in some vintage and make your own call. The "PSA is too lax" talk was last fall, I believe. With the direction Beckett is heading and GAI having a customer-service meltdown, PSA's tightening up a bit is actually a pretty good thing in the long run.

I would have to say you must not be submitting much vintage (1959 and earlier) i think they are MUCH MUCH tougher on vintage then they have ever been.image

Is it just the scan, or does the right edge of the holder look frosted? It's hard to tell against a white background.
