Saw this on E-bay and did some checking on the PSA set registery and did not see this listed as a variation. Help 67 collectors or anyone else who knows.
Looks like a wet sheet was laid on top of the sheet with this card, and it bled. I wouldn't consider it a variation (nor does the Krause guide) more of a printing error, like a blank back. Probably 1 of a kind. Personally I'd rather have a clean copy of the card.
Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's
I've been working on a '67 set for five years now and have never heard of such an error. I agree with griffins. To me, that is more of a print smudge than anything else and think it makes the card less desirable.
No problem...I'm by no means an expert on '67's, but you certainly get to know a lot of the common flaws particular to an issue when you work on an old set. Numerically, I'm about 50% there on my set. I'm missing a few big names like Seaver, Clemente, and Mays. The set's not registered (yet), but am shooting for a high end 7 or better set, with most being 8's. All the stars are graded, but most of the commons are not. It's a long-term project, but I wish I'd made more progress on it in five years. It's hard to focus on one set when you like to collect so many things!
I agree it has no added value, with that said scfrench is a decent seller I am surprised he would even say such a thing. If it is so rare and a variation why didn't PSA mark the cert as such?
This is a well-known variation among 1967 aficionados, and Scott French is quite right to call it such. Like some other variations in the 1967 set, they are not all listed in standard guide books, but this does not mean they do not exist.
I would defer furhter details about this variation to 1967topps, who I believe is the one who first discovered it. Perhaps he can join in here at some point and tell us more.
Agreed BXB...there are many variations that Krause or PSA are not yet recognizing. As for the Brandon "DI" variation, there are many out there.
I believe I found it and pointed it out to Scott French, among others, who then went out and bought every Brandon he could find.
[ASIDE: PSA is just too busy to get variations right - heck half the time they don't even give you the correct insert card EVEN WHEN YOU POINT OUT THE VARIATION IN YOUR SUBMISSION like the Ruben Gomez "Incomplete Stats Lines". (You guys are so busy pushing for fast response from them the quality suffers...but I digress)]
Actually I always defer to a fellow named Dino (tdima) who I don't believe is on this discussion, he keeps the most comprehensive list of 1967 variations, I will forward him the link and hopefully he will chime in with comments.
