HERITAGE AUCTIONS OUTRAGE

After successfully bidding $600 for an item; after paying the $90 Buyer Premium; after paying $10.90.
They send the item, uninsured, for $4.30. The packet was bigger than my mailbox, and was clearly visible to anyone passing by. I NEVER have had this sort of disdain from a coin purveyor, that it should care so little for its customer.
And if it was stolen?
Well, Heritage does have Delivery Confirmation to location. Heritage's terms say that its responsibilities end once it delivers the packet to a carrier.
As far as they are concerned, their responsibility for delivery has ended.
These people (I won't use the term that I am thinking) do not even give you the option of purchasing insurance when it notifies you of a win. Just show them the money, and feel privileged that you purchased from such a sterling company.

My Website
"Everything I have is for sale except for my wife and my dog....and I'm not sure about one of them."
Last time FedEx or Airborne (can't remember which) left it on my front porch even though a signature was required....
From now on I will ask Heritage to use Registered and or Insured US Mail...... (Goldberg's did)......
Damn! I mean I'm only kidding by that line above, but a determined and half-smart thief wouldn't have much trouble with this kind of security! That's just infuriating!! and I didn't even bid anything.
My wantlist & references
<< <i> So who bought all the Una's and big ticket items and what are their addresses?? >>
Seriously, it really is unwise to have mail such as this delivered to your house. Get a P.O. BOX, and use it ONLY for coin parcels.....NO WORLD COIN NEWS, NO COIN WORLD, NO OTHER COIN ANYTHING! Maybe a few bills, etc.......
.....and yes, Heritage uses private insurance, as do most majors for the larger valued parcels, if necessary.......however, most high valued lots are picked up directly at the auction venue.....thankfully, GB will be shipping REGISTERED.....
Not too practical, especially when most purchases are occasional, and not that valuable except for the pretium affectionis.
One point I had tried to make is that practically all vendors that I have dealt with have either expressly offered a choice of delivery options, or have mailed in such a way that if I am not there to personally sign, the parcel is held at the postal station until I can pick it up. All very secure.
As for Heritage's third party insurance, where do the insurer's obligations end? From reading the conditions of Heritage's auctions, there is no obligation once the parcel is mailed. And once a parcel is delivered, does the insurer still owe a duty? The bottom line, especially with significant shipping and handling charge, is that Heritage should take more care in posting its goods. At the very least, they could have paid for signature confirmation.
