Just got word that my free Presidential Review is done

and shipped. It took 6 business days which I only guess on the results. There are (3) crack outs to fix issues on the coin and resubmitted that all came down a grade. The funny thing is that they were all early holders, two being first gens and one being third generation. One can only hope that I at least get them back to the grade they were before but with the shortness of the grading I will not hold my breath.

If these coins were submitted raw, the prior grades are meaningless.

    What kind of coins?
Maybe your "fixing of issues" was the reason they came down a grade?

  • I used acetone to fix minor spots. This is done by PCGS quite frequently with no adjustment to grade. I received another submission yesterday and I will not be submitting raw coins until I see and hear of change. These coins were not even touched at all other then cracking them out of the holders

Here is the run down on the grades

    down one
    down two
    down one 1st gen holder
    even
    down one 1st gen holder

I've been posting here that first gen/older gen hodlers are getting downgraded if cracked out, so don't crack them out. The reason they're going down is during their initial grading time frame PCGS used to grade more technically, while today they grade to market. Last year your crackouts would be upgrades...this year you're LUCKY if they come back the same grade...most are getting taken down 1-3 points.

I think there should be a 3rd company that you send your coins to. They will crack them out and send them the PCGS (with all of the safe guards) and if PCGS downgrades them, you should get the difference in $$$ from PCGS's policy. Of course PCGS would not agree to this, but I still think it should exist.

  • The coins were all Washington Quarters except for one older green holder merc, which is the last coin in my list down 1.

Maybe the ANA or PNG could set this up- that would lead to credibility and most likely bring down the TPG that downgrades the coin- then the conspiracy theory would be quashed. JMHFO
  • Well interesting comments on my Presidential Reviews. It appears haze and tone spotting are now issues with the grades of PCGS coins now, maybe there is lies the potential shift in standards. I had one close but it still he would not upgrade it even though it was a crack out to correct a very minor toning issue. This coin was in a 66 holder first generation holder and it is now in a 65 blue noted for haze issues which were there when the coin first grade. I correct a non field spot with acetone and wha la. Yes I know before somebody responds that it does not matter yada yada.

All in all as expected when the grades posted in less than a week. The 65 coin will end up in a 66 holder again it may take a trip or two up to the beach to do so but this coin was a costly mistake for me in the first place.
