Ok, don't be shy, admit it. How many finance their coin purchases through backgammon winnings?

Any poker players? How 'bout taking those winnings at Belmont and starting a reg. set? Any Lotto-backed collectors here?

Our I-rivers are flowing, streaming goodies, new and old. But perhaps you could add an audio link for those who wanna break from all this excitement. image

I think there is someone here who is financing via his mother's publisher clearinghouse $10,000,000 winnings. He SWEARS it is true and I seem to believe him.

Steve: I often shoot for financing some of my coin purchases through any significant stock market "winnings". More often a wild dream than a reality though.

My last true "gambling" took place when I bet a sizeable sum of money (for me at least) on the San Diego / SF Super Bowl a few years back. I still ask myself how I could have possibly lost that wager getting 20 points in a Super Bowl game!! You know the "any given Sunday" thing and all. No chance I will be buying coins from profits on "games" - that Super Bowl bet was it for me.

I would just love to be able to make a few backgammon tournies supplement my reg. sets. image

I play poker but don't finance my purchases from it. Our $150 winner take all pots won't get me 10% of the coins I want.

BTW - anyone ever watch "Breaking Vegas" on the discovery channel?
  • Hi Registry Coin:

When I was in highschool and later in college, I helped pay expenses with bridge and poker winnings. I was a really good bridge player at an early age. I was 13, and looked 8 or 9, and my Dad of blessed memory would take me to a bridge club and hustle the locals with me. They'd look at my elephant ears and thick lens, and snort to themselves. But when the cards were dealt ...

While I also made some money playing poker, I was never really good at it. Just good enough to know when there were better players in the game than me, and when there were, I took my money and discreetly sat out. But I haven't played bridge for at least 40 years, and haven't played poker -- except for teaching my kiddy-poos -- for decades.

Backgammon, however, is a different story, and a client got me playing it about 5 or 6 years ago. I've been having a ton of fun at it since then. But probably more fun than skill, so it you're looking for a hotsy-totsy opponent, I doubt I'm the one. But if you ever want to play one evening via the Internet, pm me. When I play in the absence of my client, it's usually in the MS Game Zone.

Keep in mind the following time zone differential. To get Bangkok time from US time, take New York time and flip am to pm or pm to am. Very simple.

    Warm regards,

  • Just Having Fun: GREAT Story! Thanks for sharing. image

RegistryCoin: Does it count if you play poker for quarters and search the change??? (JUST KIDDING!) No big stakes games around here... Vegas is about 3,500mi away, so those winnings (losses) are few and far in between. image

  • Wondercoin. I remember the game very well. It was 1-29-1995. And at halftime Publisher's ClearingHouse
did come to my front door and announce my mom had won $10,000,000.00.

I was fortunate enough to be able to retire. While I do finance coin purchases from her winnings right now,
my registry sets are set to explode someday.

Like most recent superbowls, most memorable moments occur during half-time, especially true in your case! image

Pull-Tabs baby. I have financed over 8K of coins in the past 6 months playing this stupid game. It's fun to do while drinking a brew doggie with the boys at the local pub. However, the down side is the odds SUCK big time.

A lot of years ago a good night at the Black Jack tables in Tahoe bought a complete set of Brown Box Ike Proofs. Still have them never been quite that lucky since. BTW over paid for them.
