I'M GOING TO START SOME HOF SETS-ANY THOUGHTS??

Well I've been thinking of doing something that would keep my interest and that I thought would be a cool project.
I've printed out my lists of HOF'ers in baseball, basketball and football and plan on working on PSA sets.
The way I look at it these players are considered some of the greatest to ever put on a uniform so it would be fun to do.
I plan on including cards I like so they won't all be rookies but a good mix of attractive cards that I have always thought were cool.
I know this isn't a new idea by any stretch but I'm pretty excited to build these collections piece by piece.
If anyone has any thoughts please feel free to add them here.

  • In football you can check out the "All-Time Greatest" sets. They have HOF'ers as well as some contemporary players you should eventually make the Hall. The ALL-Time Rushers set includes anyone who has rushed over 10,000 yards. The ALL-Time Receivers set has more modern players, with some greats waiting to be added. If you are not going to do the regular HOF set, these All-Time sets are a great alternative.
Baseball is my Pastime, Football is my Passion
  • Well I'm thinking of starting with baseball but will pick up other cards along the way if a good deal comes up.I'm in no rush so I plan to take my time and make it fun. It's a hobby and not a race.

I've been working on a Baseball and Football HOF Autograph Registry set for a while. I've also been buying Basketball HOF autos to add once that set hits the registry. I enjoy it although I know there are many that I will never have.
  • I really like collecting HOF'ers from the same season. I'm currently working on 1973-1976 Baseball. I've made a spreadsheet of every player that's in the HOF from those years and I keep track of % complete, grade average and cost. It's really a lot of fun. Here is a link to the spreadsheet on my website although it's not updated.

When I started my HOF autograph collection I had visions of ending up with a type card set. However, the candy and tobacco cards are TOUGH. As a result I am working on a Red Sox type set.

If I had the $$$ and time I would duplicate this set. RustyWilly's is #3 on the Baseball HOF Registry. This would be harder with football unless PSA designs a slab for GLA's and Ron Mix cards.

I started the World Golf Hall of Fame set currently listed on the MISC Registry. Check it out! And yes it was fun.

Collector of Vintage Golf cards! Let me know what you might have.
  • After looking at a few more options I'm going to change my focus just a little but it will still be all about vintage cards from the 50's and 60's.
    Set registry here we come!!

What do you mean by a "type card set"?

    thanks

"type card set" - a collection that contains at least 1 card from each set/issue in a given domain. For example, you could do a Topps type card set for a specific time period such as 1952 to 1981.
