auction site may only want "post-fraud" reports

Someone better connected to the largest auction site should check this info out:

I was informed by a worker bee at "safe harbor" that the big auction site's "fraud cops" will usually only act on a complaint filed by someone "who has bid" on a mis-represented item. In other words: "If the crook is not cheating you, forget about it and let him cheat anybody else that he can."

It may be that the problem is so large and complex that ONLY the Federal Trade Commission can get it sorted out.

I always thought this was the case, but if an item is completely fraudulent - or misrepresented, anyone can report it to Ebay, and action would be taken. Many times an auction was mentioned on these very boards, and I know a lot of posters here (not necessarily bidders on that auction) reported it to Ebay, and the auctions were pulled. I would imagine the number of bad auctions gets bigger every day, and perhaps they are having trouble dealing with all the complaints...
