Manufacturer Auto error ...

Donruss placed the incorrect Reggie White autographed stickers on these inserts (2004 Leaf Limited Threads at the Half) ...

... As they are the signature of 2001 New York Jets draft pick Reggie White.

The last EBAY sample sold for $70+. I've noticed these error cards before and I began thinking about other potential manufacturer errors - especially high-end inserts.

Is the any recourse from the manufacturer? Many offer a certificate of authenticity, or other statement, but what does that really mean?

I think you are giving them far too much credit calling that an error.

There actuallyl was an article in the Beckett about this. There are a total of 100 Reggie White cards "signed", IIRC, they said that about 70 of them got the real Reggie White autograph and the rest got the other auto. They adjusted the pricing and noted it in the priceguides as well.

    2004 Leaf Limited Threads Prime LT83A Re.White AU ERR $20.00 $50.00
2004 Leaf Limited Threads Prime LT83B Reggie White AU COR $90.00 $150.00

I've seen autos upside-down, missing from cards and all kinds of crazy things...it happens. I'd be awfully PO'd though if I paid $100+ for a card with the wrong auto on it, especially of a deceased player with the fan base of the real Reggie White.

Thanks Josh. Did Donruss replace these errors with the corrected versions or just re-release them?

It is a shame that people are paying these prices for a perceived "authentic" Reggie White autograph – probably a true fan to?

The card was never "re-released" it was just released with a batch that were incorrect. The total 142 cards or whatever the numbers is (I think 92 & 50) are a mixture of HOF'er Reggie White and the no-namer Reggie White. I dont know that numbers were released, but for some reason the number 70 sticks in my head. I'll have to check some old becketts to see if I can find the article again.
