Opinions on this PSA 10

Even a PSA 10 can have a diamond cut to it? Or is that considered a tilt? A diamond cut would be all four borders are off? Within PSA guidlines for PSA 10?

image

You can see the width is smaller on the top of the right side and gets wider going to bottom of the card and the opposite on the left border.

It looks like a nice card to me - maybe off a little bit, but certainly looks like a 10. Very tough to grade a card from a scan, however.

True, plus it does look a little tilted in the holder. So that might be throwing off my perspective of the borders.

  • It definately has a very slight tilt to it. where is Mr. Pixel counter when you need him?!

It not tilted in the holder ... it has a Rhombus shape. The top and bottom are parallel to the inside edges.

I call cards diamond cut with they have a proper cut (4 - 90 degree corners) but the image itself is tilted. I have a few cards with this Rhombus shape, however they meet all the other requirements of the PSA grade.
  • Yet another example of "If it was mine its an 8.............."

It does have a slight tilt to it. I'm not sure who "Mr. PixelCounter" is, but I counted them at 8x...there is a 3 pixel difference on either side, but the top / bottom is not off that much.

    My little drawing wasn't working.
So if this makes any sense at all...
    LeftTopTB: 12 RightTopTB:11
    TopLeftLR:12 TopRightLR:8
    LeftBotTB:10 RightBotTB:11
    BotLeftLR:9 BotRightLR:11

    Lt Side: T/B Centering-54/45 (12/22)
    Rt Side: T/B Centering-50/50 (11/22)
    Top : L/R Centering-60/40 (12/20)
    Bottom: L/R Centering-55/45 (9/20)

In other words, the card is not parallel all the way around...or maybe I counted wrong. image
Looks like a great card, I did not know that a diamond cut could get into a 10 holder either. Hopefully someone else will measure it up with a fine point ruler and see what they come up with and either corroborate or refute my numbers. I had to use the ol' pixel method, which depending on the quality of the scan can be off by 5% sometimes just by the colors it picks up.

There is no tilt to the image ... it's the borders that are cut wrong - giving the illusion of a diamond cut.

A rhombus which is a special kind of parallelogram with 4 equal sides.
A rhombus has 4 sides. All sides of a rhombus are congruent. Opposites sides of a rhombus are parallel. No angle of a rhombus equals 90°.

I would think that the fish eyes on the "P" would take it out of the 10 range.................. I agree with six btw
    Good for you.

    Stingray,

That is a really nice card that I'd be proud to have in my set. There's no way I'd pay the PSA 10 price for it though, with that tilt cut. I am certain that if I submitted that one it would have come back an 8.

Stingray, There are MUCH worse looking PSA 10's out there. TRUST ME!

  • I like the card. The Print defect in the "P" is more my issue with it. It looks like a nice MINT card. Grade it tomorrow, it's a 9. Grade it Wednesday it's a 10. Grade it Thursday it's a head-scratcher 8, on Friday it's a 9 again. Saturday and Sunday it's prbably a 9 & 10 respectively. You get the jiist. I love the 67 Stargell in high grade.

There are probably a few 10s worse, and a few 10s better,
and of course we all agree a scan is not exactly the same as the real thing,

    However,
The print mark commonly called a "fish-eye" appears noticable enough to make a grade of ten, perhaps a wee bit generous.

This aint no party,... this aint no disco,.. this aint no fooling around.
  • I agree with softparade. the card is indeed very nice, but as stated before it seems like a 9 would be much more inline esp with the purple print defect in the "p" and the slight irreg shape.

    still a very sharp card.

The card is really nice IMO.

We have had the tilt vs. diamond cut discussion and it has always been my understanding that a card that has square (90 degree) corners and the picture is not parallel - we call a "tilt" and when a card is not square (like a parallelogram), then we call the card "diamond cut."

Based on my understanding, this is a good example of a diamond cut card:

The corners are not at right angles.

The card looks gorgeous to me. If I was in the market for that card and was willing to pay the large premium associated with a PSA 10, I would have no hesitation bidding on it.

Wow, that card is pretty badly tilted. The print dot right on the P doesn't help matters. Just very poor eye appeal in my opinion, especially for a PSA 10.

haha, psyche! PSA says the card is a 10, so it's a 10. End of discussion! Just get the card and put it into your Registry. Who says you have to put a picture of the card in your Registry? image

DBH has a good point. Buy the flip, not the card. If the "tilt" is distracting, wrap the entire lower part of the slab in masking tape so just the PSA label is showing, and display your flip proudly!

Seriously, without getting into the argument whether it's 9 or 10, that's a gorgeous card.

  • Back a few years ago I was given a few felt pouch cases that did just that. The whole card was covered except for a clear window for the flip. What a wonderful idea - display the flips proudly!

As far as the Registry and GPA is concerned, your card is a perfect GEM MINT 10.

I was worried that the flip is a bit off-center top to bottom, and there is a corner touch on the lower right. Dang red borders!
