Wow you aren't bitter are you?

He served his time for a rape that was a set up from the word go...like she didn't want to have sex with him going up to his room at 3 am.

Worthless excuse for a life? Are you sure you aren't talking about yourself?

Of course NOT. Tyson will keep fighting until nobody will pay him to do it anymore. Firstly, he owes a ton of money. Even though he has to give a lot from each of his fight earnings to creditors and the IRS, it's still the only way he can earn money - and he needs money. Secondly, he loves it too much...he doesn't like to lose but he loves to fight. When he's 50 years old, he'll still be fighting in some Mexican fight club somewhere for $1,000.

I read tonight where he still owes somewhere around $40M to various creditors... which means, even though he said "I don't think I have it anymore" after the fight, you can bet we haven't seen the last of him.

How pathetic has boxing become, that Tyson is still a big draw like this? People still pay top dollar for his fights, whether in person or on PPV - and probably still will. What a shame for the sport in general...

I mentioned this fact a couple weeks ago and got nearly strung up for it.

The fact that they promoters are so corrupt that they can't get an organized system in place, and promote boxers who have real skills and get a recognizable champion again.

“I can sell out Madison Square Garden masturbating.”
    Quote from Mike Tyson.

Tyson is simply a sports enigma who comes along every once in a while that people just want to go see. Tyson's quote here is crude but he's probably right.
  • Sheesh, sounds rigged, he was something like a 1-8 favorite, I wonder how much he bet on the other guy?

    EXACTLY!

You hit it on the head there Brian $5 mill purse X 8 = $40 mill exactly what he owes.

"I most likely won't fight anymore. I'm not going to disrespect the sport by losing to this caliber of fighter," said Mike Tyson.

HE doesn't want to disrespect the sport! HA! A little f'in late for that.

But he'll totally disrespect his opponent in the same comment and in the match.

This A-Hole will be in jail within a month. He would have spent his whole life there if not for Cus D'amato.

I don't know about that. He was brutal in the beginning of his career, one of the hardest hitters I've ever seen.

Come on now, are you sure you want to keep drinking that talk-radio kool aid?

He went downhill (hey, ALL boxers do), but there was no one fiercer early in his career. Tell me that ANYONE wanted to get into the ring with him his first 5 or 6 years in boxing.

All comments heard. Tyson got a $5 million payday and the dude that beat him got a $150,000 payday. So good for both of them as it turned out. Tyson got a pittance of this....the IRS got most of it. The other guy got squat after paying his bills, but he will now get a bigger payday. That's the game.

Tyson sucks, but unfortunately he is an enigma and will still fight again because people love to see him lose....and want to see the circus aspect of his bouts. There are now (unfortunately) 4 heavyweight belts. He will be be back because the fans will be willing to pay to see his BS act...for one or two more fights. IMO.

  • Tyson did have a nice five year run-he was the youngest champ, he was also the youngest to lose the championship. He was a bully fighter and once Buster put him on the deck, his career as a dominant heavyweight was over. His last big win was in 1991.
Listening to Burt Sugar and Jim Lampley the last few days (both of which I respect for their boxing knowledge), neither puts Tyson in the top ten of the heavyweights all-time and remember since John L.Sullivan, there has been roughly 30 recognized heavyweight champs.

    The guys ahead of him:

    Ali
    Marciano
    Holmes
    J. Lewis
    L. Lewis
    Dempsey
    Frazier
    Foreman
    Jack Johnson
    Holyfield

  • Tyson's recent comments have caught me by surprise. Not at all like his usual image but somewhat in keeping with brief flashes of humanity that he showed in the past, such as when he humbly spoke with Bill Mazer about past boxers and how he studied their biographies. I know that most people on this board despise the guy (and I'm no fan of his either). But, I (and most everyone) also disliked Ali when he was unbeatable and arrogant but they grew to admire him years after he retired. Could it be somewhat the same with Tyson? What do you think??

Where would Tyson be if he had been permanently thrown out of boxing after the Holyfield debacle?

Would he be in jail now?

His career since then reminds me of a broken bumper skidding along the road. Alot of noise, the occasional spark, and it just disintegrates as time goes on. Sad way to end a career.

He'll probably make his way over to Japan.. They'll pay to see him and his crazy antics which will be encouraged.

I believe he was the best of all time in his prime. I don't think any of the past greats could have beat him.

i dont think so.. i could be wrong, but i think they were trying to arrange for him to fight K-1 a couple years ago (possibly against Bob Sapp) and ran into problems due to Tyson being a felon.. (japan wont let felons in?)

  • tyson when young fought with an all out barrage of punches and put away inferior oponents quickly. remember michael spinks was the HEAVYWEIGHT champ and was so afraid of tyson he should have just handed him the belt before the fight. also larry holmes was old and slow and an easy victim for tyson's all out assult. i really think if he would have had to fight an ali, foreman, chambers, frazier,m. young or holmes at their peaks we would have heard very little of tyson. once exposed to a bigger, better boxer he was helpless after 6 rounds.

Grow up, Tyson is a longterm criminal, nothing more or less.
I met him once at the Caesar's Palace Hotel in 1988 before his fight (sic) with Tony Tubbs or Tony Tucker, (altogether forgettable boxing
hacks). I met him in a posh haberdasherie in the lobby at Caesars. Within 5 minutes of meeting me, he asked me if I knew any loose women he could impose some "damage" on.
Even after his incarceration for rape, he has consistently bragged about all of the women he's raped and gotten away with it.
He's probably committed several murders. And he's never been anything more than a pint sized tomato can after the 5th round.
Good riddance, a disgrace to a civilized world----that is his legacy. Unfortunately, God gave even him testicles and hormones.
