mike wheat raw cards

Anyone bought any of his raw offerings on ebay? He has a ton of raw stuff, but i am unsure whether or not he overgrades and overprices his cards. I bought two exhibit cards from him a few months ago...and they were fine. But, when i resold one of them, it was at half the price i bought it.

Anyone bought an extensive amount from him and have a good sample to tell whether or not he overgrades and overprices his cards?

thanks in advance

  • Usually overgrades by 2 levels and prices are simply insane.

  • Overgrades, overpriced, and I have had more than one card come with issues on reverese (never has back scans)...stamps, writing, ect. Cannot recommend him.

Mike Wheat was discussed a while back and it seems nothing has changed.

Guess I'm to the contrary. Bought 8-10 1963 Parkies from his website listed as NM-Mt. All came back PSA 8. Got them for a very reasonable price too.

That's my only dealing - guess I'm in the minority.

Bought a 1913 National Game Ty Cobb in NM/MT-- came back a PSA 9. I also bought a large amount of his 54 Bowman baseball cards in NM/MT and all are centered well. With the jewelers 10x20 the corners are all PSA 8 quality. I will send those in at some point and time. When i owned the Cobb it was a 1 of 3 in a PSA 9, now there are 11 of them and now 2 PSA 10'S have been graded since. They are definitely book on their prices--and would put their grading up against anybody in this business. What might be Mint to me might be NM/MT to you. It is all subjective. Take who like and stick with them like a fantasy player until they get cold.

My experience with Mike Wheat wasn't bad either.
But I bought some Berk Ross cards from him - I think he's more grounded on slow movers.
His mainstream stuff is on the moon.

I bought a 52 Topps, some Bowmans, a few PlayBalls, and an Exhibit card a while back. I was satisfied for the most part. But it is true that most of his prices are too high, otherwise I would have bought a lot more cards.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
  • i did buy from him in the past and i was more or less happy (except, of course, when i resold one of the exhibits...it went for half of what i bought). But, the card i am looking at is pretty expensive and is a highly sought after card. I really dont fear that the card is trimmed or altered...my concern is that i may be paying more than i should for a raw card.

I have bought some raw commons for my 59 baseball set from Mike Wheat in the past ...without scans graded NR-MINT. The cards were the most high gloss, perfect corner cards i have ever seen................Their centering was far from perfect (but not OC) and some had wax stains. Was I pleased with what I got?..............I was satisfied.........and I will not need to upgrade. (My 59 set will always remain ungraded)

I would never buy a non-common card from them because their prices are through the roof!!
