Neat old coin, but bad linky. Here.

I had an 1811 Solothurn batzen with a very similar look. Perhaps not quite as nice.

  • Thanks for the link hook-up Rob

I think it might look better in hand........just a guess of course

Nice coin and a good price. That canton isn't easy to find. I have the ½ Batzen from 1811 but it's not as sharp a strike. Nice grab! image

    Nice coin, but no ship?

  • I know it should be a ship but I am sort of (totally ) out of control when it comes to coins. If it's attractive to me and I can afford it I go after the coin. Some just catch my eye, I can't pretend to tell you why.

I have maybe 20-30 more ship coins/medals i should put on my site but I have been too lazy.

I also have several 1000 other world coins here and may need a bigger place to live if I don't find some direction to my collecting (I hope I don't)

Then I have three words for you Wayne; focus, focus, and focus (note I didn't say that they would be easy words - good luck).

Many people find it hard to believe, but 1000 coins fit into one medium sized folder. I bet your drawer can contain a few of these.image

  • Your correct Phill, but I have SEVERAL 1000 around here.............none special.

I have 2 X 10 kilo bank bags I haven't even opend yet and at least 5 others I have been half way thru.

I don't have a special focus on coin collecting, although I do collect theme ship cpins/tokens and medals.

I can accept that it makes me a strange collector but I sure enjoy it.

Nothing wrong with having a strange collection - it keeps the hobby interesting to those of us who have AADD (I do include myself in this catagory image)....

What I call a collection of coins is really more of a hoard than a collection (even tho a lot of the coins fall into the same general catagories). I started updating my spreadsheets on what I REALLY have verses what I THNK I have and found a 1 gallon ziplock bag in the safe that contains nothing but toned SA proof coins (mostly copper) in air tites and flips. Nothing wrong with that except that I also have at least 8 of the air tite plastic storage boxes that are also filled with toned SA copper coins, thus the determination that I do not have a collection - I really have a hoard!!!

I will be sorting thru the stuff and you guys may see a whole bunch of SA coins on the weekend swap lists and on the bay in the near future...

BTW - I like the coin that you won, but cannot tell you anything about it or the price that you paid... and glad to see you posting here again!
