Why I Went Back to Coins

I collected sports cards in the mid to late 80's because I had lost interest in coins. I was in the card shop one day, I think in '88, and the owner tried to get me to buy 1 of the newly released NASCAR sets he had just gotten into stock for $14.00. I looked at them and said they would never amount to anything but did buy 2 of the new PGA sets that had just came out also. The NASCAR cards were the Myrtle Beach variety. I didn't buy the '89 Upper Deck baseball set either when it came out. I later got an '89 UD set but paid dearly for it. Maybe I'm better off with coins. At one time both these sets were "big" but I have been out of cards since '90 and have lost touch with what's what in that area. I'm here just browsing, hope y'all don't mind a visitor from coins. Now working on a 144 coin Registry set of the old Commemoratives.

you got by noon to get out of town or else!!!!
Why collect real money when you can spend real money on old cardboard.
You're welcome to come slumming with us card boys anytime. Nice coin set by the way. I'm putting together the 50 piece commemorative type set (can't imagine doing the 144 coin set). Here's a link to rmoss's coins for those of us who go both ways (so to speak).

You could always collect spoons - you know, those little spoons you get from famous places...

I have been sitting on the couch so long that now I'm involuntarily collecting dust.
<< <i>Actually, I've started collecting Chinese beer spoons. Do you have any? >>
Like your card collection, I don't think anyone here has any but I'm sure you will tell us all about them and then some.

That has to be one of the most brilliant comments I've read on this board in a long time!!!

I did know what I was collecting. Love the Atlanta Braves since 1966 when they moved to Atlanta. It had gotten to the point then that all you got out of packs was commons. I bought 4 boxes of 1990 Bowman and some of the packs had 5 & 6 of the same cards in them. Only the dealers had the good cards, and they were only good as long as the dealers had them. I know all dealers are not like that but the a good many of them locally were. The good dealers are still in business. Once the dealers had sold out of them they were no longer any good. I guess I just became disillusioned with the hobby. I still have all the cards I amassed and will continue to hold onto them. I have baseball from 86 through 90, some hockey, some basketball, some football. Still have my cards from when I was a kid (61 & 63 Topps and Fleer Baseball Greats) I enjoyed it while I was in it but went back to coins.
I collected comics when I was in my teens but moved on to coins from them. I still have the comics too. Life is constant change.
