what stops people from creating a new registry?
hi all.
I like reading about all the new ideas for registry sets on here.
It does sound like a fun project.
What stops a person from creating it?
Do they need free hosting, bandwidth etc?
Do they lack programming skills or knowledge of databases?
Is it a lack of time?
I also wonder if anyone has taken the time to drawn out on paper
what their idea of the site layout should be. Coding up a web interface
is such a small part of the effort. Proof of concept at least. (I am a minimalist
and practice the fine art of KISS).
So what stops it from happening. The ideas are all around, but vague and unrefined.
thanks for reading.

What is stopping me from actually putting this web app up are:
1. I can't figure out what the domain name should be.
2. My current server (read: my home desktop PIII 800Mhz) would not be able to handle the traffic and I haven't won the powerball drawing yet.
3. There's only 1 real option for an ISP in my neighborhood, and they're spendy for the bandwith I think would be necessary (still haven't won the powerball).
4. Hosting options for my web skillset (Domino & WebSphere) is crazy expensive and from personal experience and others' horror stories make this not an option either.
When the numbers 4 - 5 - 17 - 23 - 29 P5 get drawn on Saturday I'll quit my job and have the site up as soon as I can think of a domain name. Or if there's anyone out there with a bunch of bandwith and a ph4t Domino server I'll send you my .nsf
One other problem too is making sure that your concept for a registry website will actually catch on and reach critical mass. If for example you duplicated the PCGS registry no one would use it, but if you make it too generic I would guess no one would bother with it either. This has probably been discussed to death in a few threads, but do you maybe have some new ideas that made this your first post?
BTW, welcome to the forums.
Need more $$$ for coins?
PCGS, they own the rights.
