Question on Beckett BCCG Grading

Does anyone have experience crossing over BCCG to BGS or PSA? If a card is graded BCCG 10 (mint or better) does that mean
the card will definitely cross over to BGS 9 or better? There are a couple cards in BCCG 10 I would like to pick up, and the price is right if I can be sure that I will get a 9 or better with BGS or PSA.

  • BCCG 10 won't even cross to a BGS 9, in my experience. same grading company, and it won't cross. what a joke.

You have a chance, but you have no guarantee. Most "experiments" I've seen have the cards crossing to 8's and lower in most cases. I wouldn't be one bit surprised if you ended up with a handful of altered/trimmed cards in those holders either. If you can get an oppt'y to see the cards in person and measure it up and take a good look at it, you might find some bargains. Otherwise, I'd stay away.
  • Thanks for the input. How can Beckett slab a card as "Mint or Better" and then not give it a 9 on crossover?? I thought it was strange that BCCG 10's sell for considerably less than BGS 9's, now I know why.

BCCG isn't a bad as people make it out to be. I don't know if trimmed cards end up in these slabs, so I can't comment on that. But the grading scale isn't a total joke. As evidence I can tell you that BGS and PSA 8's do NOT cross to BCCG 10 slabs very often. I should know, as I staged an experiment a while ago where I cracked a slew of '86 TT and FU Bonds cards from BGS and PSA 8 slabs and sent them to BCCG. Only about 15% of them crossed to BCCG 10.

If you can get a deal on modern BCCG 10 slabs from a private collector than I would buy 'em and try to cross them over. I would not buy BCCG 10 slabs from a dealer, since there' probably a reason that those 'mint' cards aren't in BGS or PSA slabs to start with. But you can find good deals from small-time collectors who sent in Mint+ cards to BCCG.

I think someone had said before BCCG 10 = to PSA 7

I hate Big Caca Card Grading!
Biggest joke in the industry to pull more dough
into their pockets (which is brilliant) because it's
    the beckett name.

I'm still waiting for PSSA or PSAA.

I just submitted a BCCG 9 '71 Topps Bob Gibson for a friend (cracked out, of course) that came back ungraded due to recoloring. I personally wouldn't touch their cards.

Beckett doesn't even pretend that BCCG is on par with other grading services. The comparison chart in Beckett Monthly states that BCCG 9 is equivalent to PSA 7. You can add "if it's not trimmed or doctored" in your head. It's basically for people who like to see high numbers describe their lower-grade cards, and it's a little better than PRO.

BCCG is total garbage. While I do buy BGS cards, I would never buy a BCCG card. It is obviously tailored to cards that would grade much lower by BGS or PSA .

We've had threads like this before. While BCCG was created for bulk submitters (I think you had to submit at least 100 cards when they started), and I've heard you can buy grades (as in $4 for 9s, $7 for 10s), and the grading isn't anywhere near as strict as PSA/BGS/SGC, that doesn't mean that the cards are all junk. I've never heard of a trimmed cards in a BCCG case. And the "or better" part does hold true. I've seen BCCG 10 cards that I'm sure would definitely have been 9s or 10s with PSA and at least 9 with BGS. I wouldn't buy a BCCG card on ebay unless it was a really good price, but in person I've seen several BCCG cards that I would've picked up without hesitation.
