Never knew this was a real thing

Maybe I am just a little slow, but I have read the book and seen the movie MANY times (like a lot of us here on the boards) and still had no idea there was a basis in reality for the story. Of course other than the real ball players names used in the book/film. I think this is real neat but don't know about the opening bid price.

Speaking of Moonlight Graham, My Beckett Alphabetical Checklist lists a 4 card set produced in 1993 called "Moonlight Graham". I have never seen it anywhere and would love to obtain it for my collection. Has anyone ever seen the set or any cards from the set for sale or display?
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

not to be a spoil sport, but that newspaper sure looks in fantastic condition for a 100-year-old paper that had no good reason to be preserved for so long....image

I am usually pretty dubious about most vintage auction items and this was no different. But, please - look at his feedback. Regardless I thought it was an interesting item.

Not really (about this being too good of a condition). There are literally mountains of "fresh" 19th century newspapers around and they have a hard time going for $15-20 on eBay. Heck, even I have a full New York Herald edition from 1862 that depicts a battle from the Peninsula Campaign. It ain't worth much.

  • I picked up the moonlight Graham set a few years ago at a show for a couple bucks - just on a whim. I haven't got a clue what I did with it or where it is now. If I remember correctly, the 4 cards were all different sizes.

True story, I live in Michigan and the town I grew up in was found in the early 1800s, exact date unknown, but when one of my older brothers was about 15 or so he and some friends were going through some old abandoned houses that were from the 1800s and he found an old newspaper with the headlines "Lincoln Assisinated" or "Lincoln Shot" from 1865. I do remember him keeping it for awhile, then I asked him years later what he did with it, he said he sold it for $100 bucks.
