Paypal sellers taking only bank transfers

I am sure this topic has already been discussed, but it has been more popping in some more auctions that I look at recently. Why would a seller not take a credit card thru paypal, yet take a bank transfer?
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

  • Its probably because they didn't upgrade their account to accept credit cards. I use to have this type of account where if someone paid me via bank transfer, paypal wouldn't take any % of the payment I received. So if I sold a $20 card and received payment, I would receive the full $20. With this type of account you can't accept credit card payments. Once you upgrade your account to accept credit cards, any type of payment(CC or bank transfer) will incur fees to the recipient of the money.

I'm not a seller so i may be off but; i dont think there's a paypal fee if you just take bank transfers. If you take credit cards you have to sign up for the business acct.

For the seller, accepting only paypal payments via a bank transfer is much more secure than taking a credit card payment. Should the buyer initiate a chargeback for some reason (legitimate or fraudulent), the seller is at the mercy of paypal.

I once sold some cards to a person who paid with paypal via a credit card. She received the package and then claimed after the fact that her credit card was lost. Since she received the package that was shipped to HER address, you would think I would be protected as a seller. Logic not being something of use to paypal, the idiots their took funds from my paypal account anyway. After that, I leave ZERO balance in my paypal account.

Go to paypalsucks.com and you'll see that getting screwed by paypal is not a question of how it's going to happen to you, but when it's going to happen to you.

I totally agree, PayPal is the evil middleman. They say buyer protection and all that crap, but in the end they still take the sellers money (fees) and the buyer gets no protection. It's like a monopoly because PayPal=Ebay so they make money on paid auctions, and they could really care less about the seller or the buyer for that matter.

a personal pay pal account does not take credit or debit cards. there is a monthly receiving limit on these accounts. you get 100% of the money with no pay pal fees. the upgraded paypal account accepts all payments, has no receiving limits and you pay the fees.

some sellers use the paypal logo and say they only take bank transfer ony and not credit cards. if you use the paypal logo then you have to take credit cards, even if you say you don't.
  • earlycalguy is correct, if the seller has the paypal logo in their auction they MUST take credit card payments, otherwise they'll get the boot.

As far as sellers are concerned, recieving money via bank transfers is good since it's tougher for the buyer to initiate fradulent chargebacks.

As far as buyers are concerned, paying money via bank transfers is bad since if you get screwed, you're at paypal's mercy. I only pay this way if I trust the seller.

Not true. I had a seller not send a card and never responded to my emails. On the 28th day, I filed with Paypal
since it was taken directly out of my checking account and transfered into my Paypal account so I don't have to
constantly write it down in my checking log. He never responded to the Paypal inquiry; so I received my $ back on the 10th day.

For those that only want to accept Paypal by checking or by bank transfer, is because they only have a personal account
and not a business or premium acct. The personal account can only accept up to $500 per month and there are no fees
taken out. That may be fine for the small time sellers that don't do much selling. Personal accts cannot accept Credit Card payments.
I used to have a Personal acct., but after awhile, I started selling too much and had to upgrade to prem. acct. and I remembered when it was a $1,000 limit per month which was great. Then the dreaded email letter from Paypal came with the drop to $500....the turds!

For the sellers that have the Paypal logo showing Visa, MC, AMEX, etc and say that they only accept from checking or transfer, they should
be reported. Ebay will knock off that auction. I think that happened to someone on these boards months back.

I meant chargebacks in which the buyer was being fradulent not the seller.
