Well, you guys have done it again. I've dipped my big toe in the pool of the darkside and the water feels fine! I picked up the title coin at my local coin store. It's BU and I figured that any coin from the mid 1850's that looks like it was made yesterday is a great coin to start with. It's a very strong overdate and the obverse has some doubling, especially on the first "R" in "Frankfurt". I paid $40 for it and it's great. Now I'm curious as to what I've got? Any ideas on the history? Value? Thanks in advance.
I've had great transactions with people like: drwstr123, CCC2010, AlanLastufka, Type2, Justlooking, zas107, StrikeOutXXX, 10point, 66Tbird, and many more!

History-wise, that was an interesting period for Frankfurt. In 1848 there were popular revolutions across Europe. In Germany the center of the movement was in Frankfurt and there was a fairly large parliament established. It didn't last long, but it did considerably move the idea of unification forward.
It's amazing the great condition coins you can find from the German states of this period. It's really one of my favorite areas.. those itty-bitty BU coins. $40 is a good price generally for these, and especially for the item you got. Would love to see a pic

They should have listed the overdate below the regular 1849 date to avoid confusion over that mintage number (950,000 being the total for both) as well.
My '96 edition also lists the Unc at $40.
Please post a picture of the coin when you can!

<< <i>The 1846 'Inc.Ab.' note for that type refers to the mintage amount, 154,000, being included in the mintage amount of the previous type which was also minted in 1846. >>
