Getting ready for my first submission

I am going to take advantage of the $5.00 set registry special for my 1972 Football set. I am #9 right now.

Does PSA send your Card Saver I's back? I am looking to send in 120-150 cards and would like those back. I know it's only $10.00 or so but I just bought them.

2nd question - Should I put the card in a penny sleeve and then in the card saver I for shipping or just in the card save?

3rd and final question is a Loupe. What is an affordable one that you use?

Thanks for you help

Troy

Good luck with your submission. My humble input on your questions:

    #3 - I use a folding 10X loupe that I bought at War Surplus for $12.00.

#2 - I don't use penny sleeves; it's just another thing that the card has to be placed in and removed from (where most accidents happen).

#1 - If you want your Card Saver I's returned, I would recommend slightly trimming every card, since they only return Card Savers when the submission is not holdered.

I spent $5 on a loupe and it has been more than good enough.

I had emailed Joe O. about buying some of the leftovers at a discount, guess they are smelting them to make the PSA holders.

No, they will n ot give you your card savers back. I think they cut the cards out of them. I do and would advise to use penny savers as PSA reccomends as well. Cards can shift around in the card savers, I do however think I may have knicked some corners or edges on the penny savers. Good luck!

  • for 1972 football i would say no to penny sleeves just one more way to slightly bump a corner and if they are new card savers 1972 football should be the correct thickness to avoid movement. penny sleeves are best for shiny cards that you could get a fingerprints on. image

I submit all my cards with vintage-size penny sleeves in Card Saver Is. I slit each side of the sleeve (seam) about 1/3 of an inch. This allows me to fold over the front of the sleeve, thus avoiding and corner/edge chipping.

The cards seem to slide in much easier. I think this would also eliminate any corner wear when sliding the cards in (friction against the plastic surface) ?

I'm with you sixdart. That's exactly what I do also in regards to penny sleeves. I have 700 already made up sitting in a 250 count plastic box and they've all been slit 1/4 or 1/3 of the way for easy entry. I learned the hard way about foil cards or colored bordered cards that had been chipped trying to slide them in without the cut.

I sent in my 2nd submission of 1969 topps and my cards were in the screw-down holders...

Those things are like friggin harder to open then Fort Knox. The stupid screw strips, then you're left w/ plastic shratnel and a stripped screwdriver.

Note to self: don't send in cards in screw-down holders.

Julen - just curious: how did your grades come back?
Did anybody get pissed that you didn't read the instructions that tell you NOT TO SUBMIT CARDS IN ACRYLIC HOLDERS?

    Mark,

Probably pissed but they were kind enough to call to ask my permission to remove the cards from those sorry screw downs.
