Interesting News on an eBay Competitor

Yahoo ditches fees on U.S. Web auctions

Yes, eBay is the dominant auction site and has partnerships and business practices in place to ensure that it remains #1. I can see this chipping away a little on the eBay monopoly though. I know that the sportscards listings on Yahoo are mostly junk, but it would be nice to see a little viable competition for eBay. I don't see much downside for a seller if he starts out the right price.

Can you do Paypal on yahoo auctions? If so then it might pick up some.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

Weren't Yahoo auctions free when they first tried to compete with Ebay years ago? I think I bought some stuff five or more years ago on Yahoo, but it'll take a critical mass of sellers and buyers to make it work. I hope it works, but I doubt it will.

    AJW,

You hit the nail on the head. Critical mass is what it's all about and eBay seems to have a lock on that for the foreseeable future. I just think Yahoo's a no-risk proposition for a seller to pick his price and sit on it for otherwise slow-moving, low-demand inventory.

Yahoo is involved in too many things to focus in on auctions. To get competitive with ebay, it's gonna take multiple software programming experts, backed with lots of capital, focusing in on auctions, to be able to compete with ebay. With all the money that ebay is raking in, I'm sure some rich bast*rd out there is eyeing the possibility. But the real competition won't come from Yahoo.
